Order from McMurray/ Does This Look Like a Blue?

Johnson City, TX(Zone 8b)

I recently received my order from Murray McMurray.
I ordered crested polish, ameraucanas and Blue Cochins.
Does this look like a Blue to you? Is it a Buff cochin?

It is not my surprise chick, as I recvd 27 chicks, which
is what I ordered. In the mix of cochins, there are what
look like blues and blacks, which is what I would expect
with the genetic mix that comes naturally. If you order blue
cochins, should they all be slate gray chicks, or mixed
like I got?

may princess tammy be a chicken lover.

Tammy, This one might also be a white cochin or a buff ..... tough to tell the chicks in those colors apart when they're day-olds. I'm sure the other blues and blacks don't look anything like this one ..... so you've already got your answer. Sometimes they'll include SPLASH instead of blue .... which is a blue derived genetically related color. They are every bit as adorable. I had a Splash Cochin. We named her Cinderella thinking she was a hen but after a few months altered his name to Cinderfella. He was a real goofy but handsome looking roo. Actually he was our most favorite rooster.

There's a whole page of various color chochin chicks photos here, including the splash. Maybe that will help.

Haha, I had to laugh, Photographer. I am not Tammy,
I'm Joni, but that's ok! I'm playing a game on another forum,
and must give salutations in each post. I understand how
it could be confusing. So, this could be a buff or white.
Looks like McMurray made a goof, then.
Thanks, Hart, I have looked at feathersite for a better I.D.
Her wingtips coming in, at now 5 days old, are looking
white. 'She' is a lot bigger than all the other 23!
I have to agree, they are all adorable. They seem slower
to develop wing feathers than the other 2 breeds, but they are
all just starting out, so they may catch up. I guess it really is
my Surprise! chick, after all.

may princess tammy be amused.

I just happened to catch it, and yes I was! HA HA HA

I sent an email to McMurray yesterday, explaining my
question about the number and mix of chicks. They
replied within 24 hours with a toll free number to call.
Even though it was day 4 after the chicks arrived, they
were very happy to credit my account for the errant buff/
white chick, as well as the 2 polish and 1 ameraucana that
I lost on days 1 and 3, respectively. I thought this was great,
and I can use the dollar amt credited toward any product
from them, not just toward more chicks.

may princess tammy get good cutomer service.

Photographer~

We have had two roos that happened with~ Medusa became My Duder or M'Duder and Amelia Earhart became Emilio Earhart. The other roo was pretty self evident early on and we named him General Tso, there is Amaretto and lastly is Inspector Flecks who came to us as a roo.

Naming is so fun! I love chicken names.

Johnson City, TX(Zone 8b)

I love those names, Backyard! I look forward to naming
only a few- as DH said, "you know you can't name them if
they are intended for a pot!" :-) My DGD named a few this
weekend, the buff/white one she named Pearly Girl,
and a couple others, Zoom, white-spot-black, and Zippy. She's
just 4, so she thought it would be ok to name more than one
Zoom! LOL.

may princess tammy have a DGD as sweet as mine.

That's hilarious. I like to give very dignified names to chickens, when I can, as they seem to deserve it. Or, totally ridiculous names!

I'm madly jealous of all you warm climate people. We won't be even thinking about chicks around here until april.

Johnson City, TX(Zone 8b)

Sigh. Sorry about the weather. Just come on over to
Dave's for your chick fix til your weather allows! We aim to
please! :-) I think checkens deserve dignified name as well,
they don't get no respect! LOL

may princess tammy have nice weather.

I guess I am lucky...I already have chickens so all I have to do to get my chick fix is go up to the henhouse and there they are!!! And, ol' Rocky stands up on his perch and looks me in the eye as if to say "What are you doing in here, this is MY domain." And of course it is.

Johnson City, TX(Zone 8b)

That's funny, Granny. Maybe he forgot where his chow comes
from? LOL I guess it's your domain when they need
something. I hope he is a good guy about egg collection. :o)

may princess tammy never get pecked.

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Oh, he's very good about egg collection. He does stand there and watch me pick up the eggs, but doesn't try to attack me or anything. He will sometimes let us play with his tail, but since he is so heavy, we don't pick him up very much so he isn't used to that.

He also gets fed leaves through the fence from some weed that he particularly likes. He will take one or two then call the hens over and takes leaves and drops them for the hens to eat. Then, he chases them to do his stuff. He's very funny. He also runs the othe roosters off when he sees them doing their stuff.

Johnson City, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey, he's pretty smart then, with the ladies. "Oh hen! Look
what I found for you!" ROFLOL :o)

may princess tammy have good roo's.

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

That's one of the reasons we kept him when we changed our flock last year. It's comical to watch him when they come out in the morning. He sidles up to a hen and talks the talk and then chases her until she submits to him. He then hops up on the roost we have in the chicken yard and crows as if to say "look at me, I'm the king of this domain". ROFLMAO :o))

Johnson City, TX(Zone 8b)

Good Rooster, Rocky! I hope my new breeds have been
sexed right, and that I get some more good roo's like Davey.
He sets the bar very high. Gentle, attentive to Blanca, and
best of all- very handy as a ladies man. :o)

may princess tammy get all the sexes right.
