What are my little brugs doing ??

Merino, Australia

I have popped in here for some expert help. I am a newbie with brugs and thanks to our lovely chrissy over here I have these babies started. They are doing well but the 2 Sauvolens are looking odd. The one right in the front has what look like bud growths to me. I know this is unusual from reading all your posts here. They have been a bit slower with growth but you can see leaves starting too with these bud thingys in the middle. Sorry the pics are not clearer but camera doesn't do closeup well.. The other Sauvolens is is the pink pot and has the same bud looking growth. The cuttings are only from early Dec and Jan. I have been keeping them in the greenhouse and bringing them out in the warmer weather. I keep them well watered and have been using the Recipe from your DG forum on them.
What do I do ? I thought I would just leave them and see what happens . Any advice most welcome thanks .
Jean.

The photo is too blurry to tell what it is. Can you take another photo?

Just a guess without a clear photo, but the tip of the growth facing the camera looks swollen. If this were a bud, the tip would look normal and the bud would be growing out on the side. If the whole tip is swollen, it could be broadmites. Isolate the plant until the problem is identified or you find out that it is indeed a bud. This is what broadmite damage looks like:

You know what? I think it was Kell that had a picture of a brug that was doing something like that once. I don't think it's bugs.. What do they call that cluster? My mind is reeling, and scanning my memory banks and coming up blank.. What a shocker! LOL

I would isolate it.. and watch it.. someone will come along with the answer.. I'll search around too.

Thank you all for the answers. I will isolate the plant until I can see what develops. I can see no trace of any insect types on it. It looks healthy, just odd. I have taken a clearer pic but this is as close as I can do without blurring. Jean.

ZZ, I think you are referring to witches broom.

Here's another article that describes what the virus might be. It doesn't say how contagious it is. I would get rid of it just to be on the safe side. Viruses can be bad news.

Looks like witches broom, or sometimes called over growth. I have had it, if you can keep it removed it should be fine. i have never seen it on a cutting. Usually comes on mature plants. I had it on an Apricot Reise near the soil level. I just cut it off and the plant seemed to not be bothered at all.

Thank you Betty! I was too tired to think straight! All I could remember was cluster.. LOL

Thanks again everyone. It's great to know I can get so much help here. I will try your idea on one of the 2 cuttings affected theraglady. The other one I will leave isolated and see what it does for a while. All the cuttings have been on the same tray since planting and it's only the 2 Sauvolens affected.
I'll post what happens after a week or so. Thank you. Jean.
