I've been reading about this shrub and am interested in planting one in my yard. Does anyone have any experiences with that they would like to share? I live in Grapevine and have a combination of sandy soil, with some light colored clay, and partial shade.
Also, I have been unable to locate a nursery that carries it in the DFW area. Does anyone know where I could get one?
Thanks!
Dennis
Texas Mockorange
Dennis, I have been looking for one too, if you locate it please let me know, I think it is beautiful,
but most of these plants a very difficult to find, nobody seems to want to bother with them.
I wish the nurseries would wake up, and start cultivating these beautiful plants.

It really is a shame that there are so many attractive native plants that you can read about, yet most nurseries seem to carry the same old stuff, much of which is poorly adapted to this area.
I guess we will keep on looking and maybe we will get lucky.
Natives of Texas in Kerrville carry the mock orange. I was going to get a couple last year but forget to do so.
I checked with Natives of Texas, but they unfortunately do not ship.
Does anyone have any experience with any other varieties of mockorange? The nurseries around me seem to carry Natchez, which seems like it might be too large, as I don't want one that will get larger than 5 or 6 feet tall and wide.

High Country Gardens has philadelphus microphyllus plants for sale. I've bought a lot of stuff from them over the last 3 years and have found them to be very dependable. I've also just got some seeds for the same plant from southwestern native seeds.com for about $3:00 a pack but there's just about 10 to 15 seeds in the pack.
Barton Springs Nursery in Austin carries the Texas Mockorange.
Shoot!! now all I have to do is get to Austin. Well maybe one of these days.
Thank you for the information AnnieJo.
Maybe if you and I both make it to the College Station Roundup, I can pick one up for you.

Oh my!! that would be wonderful!! I an planning to go, that is so kind of you, Please dmail me when you are ready and let me know how much, I can send you a check if you like.
Thank you very very much.

I bought a mock orange from Gunther's Greenhouse in Richardson (close to my house in Dallas). It was about 6 years ago I think. They have some unusual plants and a huge selection of orchids. That is their specialty. Since we are at our lakehouse so much, I hired a new lawncare and maintenance crew and they whack off many things -- makes me just sick. The mock orange has spread many feet since I bought it but I'm afraid the guys cut off all the new growth so I doubt it will bloom this year.
