New gardener again - any ideas on this one?

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

I found these a couple of weeks after I cleaned the area up. They are everywhere. I thought I would post here first, as the bulb experts are here. Go ahead, hazard a guess and get me dreaming. :^)

Little soldiers. Could they be ditch lilies? I KNOW NOTHING about them except they have underground runners and can be invasive.

They are cute Traci send them my way!! When are you princess by the way?

Waddy, KY

I think you definitely have daylilies there and most likely ditchlilies. If they were hybrids they'd be more clumped up.

Thanks Janet. There are some clumped up, but not as many as what you see. When do these bloom?

Marie, the rate I am going, I will probably be the last princess. :^) I already lost my month.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Aww that is not fair Traci. Can not the reigning queen help you????

Waddy, KY

You'll probably see blooms in early June. Our peak is from the third week of June through the middle of July.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

I will be moving before then, unfortunately. Is it ok to dig these up now? Thank you so much.

In your neck of the woods I'd think if you can work the ground you can move a daylily. I start dividing some of my up here the middle of March if the weather permits so I'd think it'd be ok for you now.

Hey Marie, simply because you have been such a wonderful cheerleader, I am going to send you a box of "surprise bulbs". Don't hold me to a time frame because I am trying to hold out on digging as long as I can!

Janet, if you see this, here are more recent photos. A lot are clumped together, although I don't know what difference that makes. Could you explain this to me?

I was wondering about that :o)

Nothing I see in your pictures makes me think you're going to see any other color of daylily other than the old fashioned orange. Sorry.

Hey Kyday,
Thanks for responding. Orange is fine with me!! This is my first year gardening, so I delight in anything I can find. I had the pleasure of red spider lilies pop up and a belladonna amaryllis. It is just amazing to see what will come up next.

Like, what are these leaves?

They are twice the size of the largest daff leaves I could find.....

Oh, what a marvelous thing to see, when my garden keeps surprising me :o)

Traci how long have you been in this house?

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

I moved in at the end of May, but was on the road until the end of July. So, I missed it all, except for the one belladonna and spider lilies, of which 3 only came up, but I found 100's of those bulbs too. I think they have all crowded themselves to death.

The same large foliage has started to show up in a bed connected to the back of the house. There are three patches so far. So, Marie, when are you gonna buy that plane ticket? LOL

Traci, you have to keep trying girl so you can earn some points back! :o)
Marie, I don't think there is anything I can do to help her out. But you all should have seen Shaun when he figured out the monkey key chain she sent me today! It was way too funny!!!

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

If I was not the sole support of my kids I would be there in a heart beat. But honestly they like to eat and have told me they would prefer to live in a house and not camp in the desert so I need to stop having so many plants.

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

Hi everyone,
While doing MORE clean up on my back yard, this was under some leaves growing on top of the ground. Is it the same thing as the top and is it a ditch lily? How can I tell? Thank you for any help!!

Best shot I could get of the foliage. Thanks so much!

I'm fairly new to gardening too, but those last two pictures look just like my emerging ditch lilies. I have orange ones and yellow ones.
