Anyone know if Encores will take full sun in Houston? I'm guessing not, but thought it was worth asking since they seem to do things that other azaleas don't do.
Thanks.
Encore Azaleas
The ones out here in far westHouston seem to fare very well and bloom like mad.

Great. Do you happen to know which variety they are? It says full sun, but you never know if they are talking Houston Sun or some other place not quite so severe.
Thanks,
Sheila

PLANTING Recomendations
CHOOSE a site that receives some shade during the day such as the north side or near a tree. Lay out a bed if needed. Remove the turf, if any, and till or loosen the soil to a depth of up to 8 inches. Add TEAS ROSE BED MIX, Azalea food, and till in thoroughly.

says:
Sun Exposure: Encore AzaleaŽ perform best in full sun to light, filtered shade. A minimum of four to six hours of direct sunlight per day is required for proper blooms. Care must be taken to prevent exposure to drought or other heat related stress conditions associated with full sun exposure. Mulch well around the base of the plant to cover roots, hold in moisture, and protect root ball from sun. Encore AzaleaŽ are versatile and will adapt in a partial shade situation, preferably an afternoon shade. However, too shady an area can result in skipped or significantly reduced bloom cycles.
Thanks. I may try them and just see. If they don't do well, well it wouldn't be the first experiment that didn't work out well. I just have a spot that I think would be perfect with a hedge of white ones and since they are evergreen it works well.
When we moved int o our house back in July the ones I have were up by the foundation adn I was told that was not good since the cement leaches out something and they should be moved so I moved them out by the front gate under the pine trees since they like the acidity...so we will see how they do there but so far they seem to still be alive
