Amish Friendship bread

I was given a start for this bread and the recipe. I will be making the bread on Tuesday. However this recipe calls for a large box of instant vanilla pudding mix. I seriously doubt the original Amish recipe called for the pudding mix. Does anyone have a recipe that doesn't use the pudding? If no one answers I'm going to try making it without it and follow the rest of the recipe.
