If anything! If they weeds I need to get rid it fast as it is taking over. :( It look familiar, but I don't have any idea of what it is .... Josephine its not Golden Rod is it?
Please tell me what this is...
Sylvia, it looks a lot like Goldenrod, but the leaves are a little too rounded,
I think it is Obedient plant, did you plant that one?
Josephine.
it will keep growing.. and growing but such a wonderful plant how can you fault it?
Oh I love it, but its growing all under the hedges. So now i have something i can pot up for the swap.
Aint life grand:-)
Ha! I just noticed some Obedient plant that came with the Duranta I dug up from the old house. I hadn't intentionally brought it here, but I'm glad it came along. I'll be doing the same thing soon.
What do you guys do to keep them upright until they bloom? I've been too lazy to use stakes, so mine always fall over just about the time they're starting to bloom. I'll probably do something about it this year, though. Any suggestions for the best kind of stakes, that don't show too much?
You know, I also have some weeds coming up in the yard that look similar to what you posted, Sylvia. We put in new sod, and it's coming up in the "seams" of the sod pieces. When I first looked at your pic, I thought it was the same as these weeds I've been fighting, but I doubt they're Obedient Plant. I wouldn't think that would come with a bunch of sod, but I'll have to look at them compared to the Obedient plant I do know I have. OP spreads more by runners than seed, doesn't it?
Maybe I'll post a pic of my similar mystery plant if it's not OP.
Mine is the fall blooming one, so I cut it back by about half in June or July.
Mine have bloomed in the fall too, but I never cut it back. What does cutting it back do Jo?
It makes it branch out and keeps it from flopping over, so you get more blooms and don't have to stake it.
This plant doesn't sound too obedient, tee hee.
You are right it does spread, the obedient part is because when you bend the flower spike it stays the way you put it. Here is a link to check out.

I don't know... but I'm not so sure it's Obedient plant. My Obedient plant comes up darker green, thicker leaves that are closer to the ground at first, sort of flat. When the leaves get that big they are longer and thinner. None of mine is that large yet, it's all close to the ground.
Ok...just for you Sylvia, I went outside in the dark to the back of my bed and took a pic! (my plant has the pink blooms)
...this is a patch that I transplanted so it's spread and it's not individual plants. They are covered with leaves because they are still so close to the ground.

Page, ... mine are close to the ground ... yours are a darker green, could that be shade? Also if you look in the back of my first picture, they look darker. Mercy, I didn't know they spread so fast ... I am going to share with my neighbor.
Page did you give any of these away at a swap? I forgot who gave it to me.
Yes Sylvia, I admit it, I did give you some and you'll have some for your neighbor. That's one reason I went out in the dark to take a pic! I felt guilty. LOL
Mine are dark green in full sun or part shade. (I sure wish all my plants would be this green!) I see all your little babies but I'm still not sure about that leaf shape.
I guess just keep watching it and see how it grows. Surprises are always fun!
you got that right! Page you don't have to feel guilty, I love the plant!
... and Thank you.
You gave me some too Paige, and i thank you too.
Josephine.
Y'all remember you're saying that in about 2 years. :)
