Back from Borneo

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

HEY...I am back! We had a fabulous time! I met some legends in the plant world (Tony Lamb of H. lambii) and saw forests and collections to blow my mind...and NOT just hoyas.

Am going to write up my trip for STEMMA...and put in a lot of photos. There are non hoyas photos on the Tropical Gardening forum under I'M BAAAAK...and here is one of the H. imperialis we collected in the wild...actually growing in a tiny grove of bushes (we later learned this little grove was the home of two King Cobras!!!!). Look where it is growing...HOT, DRY!!!! Dorothy Green is holding the plant....

It is amazing to see hoyas growing like weeds!!!! They ARE weeds!!!!

Also...Aeschynanthus...WEEDS!!!! Here is one in Mount Kota Kinabalu Park....at about 5,000 feet.

How fun, Carol! Glad you didn't get any love bites from a cobra. Must be pretty awesome to see the plants in their natural habitat....especially neat to see for indoor growers like me. It's a wonder they thrive at all in cool, foggy San Francisco.

As for your comment “It is amazing to see hoyas growing like weeds!!!! They ARE weeds!!!!”

So good to have you back!! Caro.

Oh the hoya and orchid are wonderful. It is amazing that we grow these "weeds." Can't wait for STEMMA, too! Welcome back!!
