Has anyone used this hatchery? It has hatching eggs of Dutch Bantams and some other breeds I haven't seen anywhere else.
Stromberg's Hatchery?
I have
Most of what I had tried to order was unavailable
But they are on the same scale as McMurrays
Thanks crestedchik--I went back and looked over the site, and they really didn't have all they appeared to have. The wording is difficult to understand. I have never used Murray McMurray, it seems to get high marks from some, not so good from others. I think I am going to stick to Meyers and or Ideal for eggs--but I really did want Dutch Bantams eggs which neither has.
Have you tried the egg auction?
Hi Hart. Do you mean eggbid.com? I did look there, but I didn't see any Dutch Bantams. Is there another site? I think you can find eggs on ebay too--but I've never tried ebay and I'm a little afraid of it.
You can check with Urch's
They are in minnesota
I like using them because the actually show the birds they breed
Not sure if they have dutch bantams though
He does have tons of unusual breeds
I don't think they are on the websites anywhere

Duane Urch breeds and sells show quality fowl. Call between 7pm and 9pm CST.
Thanks, Crestedchik. I will try them. The 4-H rep here is very clear that the kids only want "show quality" roosters--so if I get hatching eggs = roosters, it would be good to get quality ones. Finding homes for my Privett roosters was very difficult. I totally understand the need to eat surplus chickens and even raise them for that purpose, but I just don't have the emotional fortitude to eat what I've raised. Which makes me a bit of a hypocrit, because I do eat store-bought chicken--which have lived a much worse life than any home raised broiler. Maybe someday I'll do the mental work necessary to take a consistant stand:-).
They send you a sheet with all the breeds and prices
I have always been happy with stuff I've gotten from them
They also sell eggs for hatching too
If you want "show" quality you're better off with Urch
You'll see his name alot in Mother Earth News and Duane has authored some books
I've used both, Stromberg's and McMurry. Strombers's is better for me because of the mature bird selection. I tell you a great one for more common breeds of chickens is Privett Hatchery. AAA+++
I order chicks from Ideal hatchery some rare breeds and they all died i think they have something in there hatchery.
I called them and they were not going to replace them but did after all and they all died the same week. not happy with them at all.
them i ordered delware & road island white and they are not laying very good out of 11 hens i get 4 eggs they are still young nad not laying very good. stay clear of them.
I ordered from Ideal and had no problems except for one duck that died shortly after arriving here. My problems with my birds all originated after they were growing so not Ideal's fault. Only trouble I can say I had with Ideal was that I ordered 5 Delaware roos and not a single one was a Delaware! They sent me my money back on all 5 and the duck plus I got to keep the roos they did send so not bad overall.
We plan to order from them again next spring.

Crested chick Do they have Bantams?? I used ideal but their bantams are a little on the iffy side as show breeds.
I did privett and thier birds were excellent the d'uccle i ordered were all show quality and so were the cochins and the silkie's were very fluffy.
Duane urch does have Bantams yes
Catscan,
I ordered from Strombergs this year and have been more statisfied with the quality and health of the birds than any other. The people are very helpful and nice to work with. I also ordered some hatching eggs from someone on ebay and had 42% hatch rate. I would order again. It is a fairly good way to get some rare breeds that you just can't find.
