Can someone please explain what this is, what it does and if it is necessary.
Bean inoculant
It is a nitrogen fixing bacteria. Don't use it myself as I have never found any benefit.

Thanks- I used to grow beans in Illinois and didn't have a problem. I just saw it recommended on the Heirloom Acres site. I don't want to spend the extra money if it is unnecessary.
It's good to use if you are planting legumes in an area where they haven't grown before, like sod. Otherwise, the stuff is already there in the soil.
