HELP! Frozen glad corms?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

My glads broke dormancy a few weeks ago and put out roots. They were in my cold room which stays at 8C/46F?.They are in peat moss in freezer bags. So I put them in a fridge which I THOUGHT was at 4C. The peat is now hard and there are ice crystals in the bag. The roots I can see are still white. Should I gradually warm them up, put them on a heat register for a quick warm? Are they goners?? Thanks for your help.

Just a guess but Im thinking there ok. I leave my glads in the ground and unless we get a really hard prolonged freeze they come up without damage. I would just set them back in your 46 degree area and let them be. if the roots are white next week you will know for sure. even if the roots die unless the bulbs get mushy I would not write them off. Thanks so much Ernie. I googled around a bit and found a hardy glad that can actually be frozen although not for long so I'm thinking they might be ok. The good thing is the peat although hard doesn't appear to be frozen solid and the corms are about 1" inside the peat.

Hi Dahlianut,
How terrible! I'm not sure if the bulbs are ok or not, but I wouldn't try to do a quick thaw, might make it worse. Just put them somewhere they can warm naturally. That's what I would do, anyhow!
Oops, just reread Ernie's post- looks like we agree.
Good luck and let us know what happens!

Well the good news is just turning the fridge down has softened the peat and the ice crystals are gone so I'm leaving them in there. The smaller roots are still white and as well as the main roots. Gee I hope they don't start growing again or I'm going to have to pot them up eek!
edit: Note: I can't plant out until after the May 24th weekend.
