Narcissus - paper white

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Hi,...I believe this to be some form of paper white - N. papyraceus
but the examples I've been able to find show a flower with petals more like an italicus or a rain lily......this form has petals more like a "Grand Primo" except with a white cup.......any ideas? Thanks! Lee

Nice Lee--Grand Primo is a double Narcissus tazetta var orientalis. I would give you a pic--but its not blooming here yet....its under a deciduous tree that didn't bother to lose its leaves until January, so its running slow this year. Like we had next to no winter here....

Looks a lot like ' Texas Star' (Narcissus x intermedius) but 'Texas Star' is definitely yellow. The shape of the petals is what reminds me of 'Texas Star'. But it could be some other cross of N jonquilla and N tazetta (which is what 'Texas Star' is. I don't do any paperwhites here but I do A LOT of other Narcissus.

How long has it been blooming? If since mid-Dec it probably is a paper white. It is pretty!

It was blooming during the very last part of Dec into the 1st week or so of January....I took the pic then and just now got around to my query. I have some of the Texas Star. Mine are yellow (as you described) and have a sweet smell...unlike the odd pungent smell of the italicus...this form had a fragrance similar to an italicus but not as pungent/strong...and yet different somehow. My Campernelles are starting to bloom,...the Tx Star won't be far behind
Thanks Debbie!

No, Texas Star is yellow. But the bloom shape is very similar--that's what made me think it might be a hyrid of N jonquilla and N tazetta as Texas Star is. Its probably a paper white blooming that early. I had to look to see if I even had any italicus--and I don't. I do know all the N tazetta's I have, have bloomed except for 'Minnow' and 'Double Roman'. My 'Texas Star' is up good--just not blooming.

It would help if the red oaks would have lost their leaves in Nov, as they are supposed to....

Sorry I had 'Double Roman' mixed up with 'Grand Primo' up there--something tells me I have too many bulbs. I know I have a lot of Div 13 species I'm hurrying up and waiting on!

You answered back as I was editing my response ( i read too fast and skipped your initial comment that the Tx Star was definitely yellow - sorry) :~)

Here's one of my Campernelles ...this weather has been so weird...several of the trees have up here have been "confused"

Nice Lee! My Campernelles definitely not blooming yet. The only daff's other than N tazetta's that have bloomed so far is 'Erlicheer' and its just starting--everything is up, but taking its time. We need a good "gully washer' down here. Very dry winter, I'm even having to water other bulb types in pots--not usual for us in winter.

Well,...I think I've figured out that this is merely a Grand Primo that is at the backside of its blooming cycle and the cup has faded....I didn't know,....but I'm fairly sure that's what it is.
