Hi everyone. I am a newbie (if you didn't figure it out from my name) from the Inland Empire. I found the site in January and started spending way too much time on here. As part of my birthday gift my boyfriend paid for me to sign up last Thursday. A week early but much better (and safer for him) then a week late... I love and hate this site already. Love it because I mean come on, DG is awesome. Hate it because it's after midnight and I am still looking through the plant files instead of sleeping.
The best part about DG is just how nice everyone is. You all bring out my good side.

Newbie in So Cal.
Welcome to DG, yep it is addictive. We are all losing sleep and learning lots. :)
Hi Amanda, Welcome !! What kind of gardening do you like to do? :)
Right now I grow flowers, and a few bushes and whatnot. Pretty much anything that isn't too needy (love orchids, not ready to attempt that yet). If I can water it everyday-every other and only have to trim it up once or twice a year it's my kinda flower. Haven't tried too many bulbs yet. The aren't cheap enough for me to be willing to screw up lol. I bought some Freesia bulbs to attempt though. What about you?
I have lots and lots of bulbs, because they are so easy, plant them and watch them come back every year, multiplying. (tulips, daffodils, lilies, irises and daylilies ) Last year I planted 6 rose bushes- those are really a challenge for me, because I'm not good with roses, but I'm hoping. I just received a David Austin catalog of roses, and I've been looking for months at the "Edmund Roses" catalog. They are so tempting to me. I love orchids also, but haven't yet attemped either. I can't wait for spring. :)
Hello Amanda,
Welcome to this wonderful garden site.
How would you like to meet some wonderful and fun loving gardeners from So. Cal? You might also go home with some free plants too. lol
One of our members is having a small garden party at her home in Orange on Sat., Feb. 23rd. Here is the link to read about it http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/805121/
You would be more than welcome and we would enjoy meeting you and hearing about your garden too. Most of the people coming have met before, but there are a few new people coming also, so you could fit right in.
If your interested, just post on that thread and Arlene (the hostess) will contact you about directions, etc.
I hope you will consider coming, you will love all these people. We are all family gardeners.

a belated welcome from upstate new york
Hi, sorry I'm late to . Welcome.
Aw thank you guys!
and thanks for the invite SoCal
Welcome to DG; We love this place!
who couldn't?
The plant files are great. Lovely pictures with most of them, member feed back, zip code reports.
Trading lists are awesome. Plants, seeds, bulbs, cuttings... A plethora of gorgeous plants to trade.
The forums are just FULL of stuff, including things outside gardening.
I even love the membership cost. It's affordable, but because you have to pay it keeps me from getting D-mails with the subject: "Grow 3 inches over night." Just to open it and find we are not talking about plants.
