Need help from Cat Owners

Burlingame, CA(Zone 9a)

My cat has decided that my bed, right down to the spot I sleep in, is now his bed. He spends all day there sleeping, even resting up against the pillow and then when he wants to go to sleep at night he climbs all over me while meowing and batting me to as if requesting I move. It wouldn't be so bad but he's long haired and he sheds constantly. I can clean a room from top to bottom so it's spotless, he walks in and within seconds cat hair is floating everywhere. There's nothing like being woken in the middle of the night with a mouthful of cat hair! He has his own bed but has stopped using it. I can keep the doors closed during the day but not at nighttime because I need to be able to hear my kids if they wake. How can I get him to sleep on his own bed again? This is driving me nuts!

Oh, and if anyone knows how to reduce shedding I'd be really grateful for some tips about that, too :-)
