Blue Ringtail (Austrolestes annulosus)
The photos by Chamma are very good. However, in answer to his question, "are these the same type" the answer would be - same type, as in they are also "damselflies". They are not the same damselfly. Identifying damselflies is, in my opinion, harder than identifying warblers. Good luck on getting a complete identification, as Kennedyh has done.
Rod
Chamma, as Rod says yours is definitely not this species, which is I believe confined to Australia.
I had a look on BugGuide and found that yours is almost certainly one of two almost identical damselflies. It is a male of either the Familiar Bluet (Enallagma civile): http://bugguide.net/node/view/150065/bgimage
or the Atlantic Bluet (Enallagma doubledayi): http://bugguide.net/node/view/61404/bgimage
Unfortunately, telling them apart is very difficult - "separation requires examination of male cerci or of female mesostigmal plate (on thorax)"
