Anyone use any of the Coneflowers in containers?

Mesilla Park, NM

I'm growing some Mexican Hat coneflowers, Echinacea, Rubeckias, Salvias and if I can find more drought tolerants I will grow those also..

Has anyone used these as fillers for containers? We finally got some ceramic, plastic, and fiberglass pots & got a courtyard... now, I don't have a clue as to what I can put in the pots. :(

Here are some of the Mexican Hat seedlings under lights.

edited to say:: Thank you for any advice..

I'm not much help but I have grown salvias in pots. They did fine. I would try the cone flowers if I were you. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Those sure are a lot of Mexican Hat seedlings. They look real healthy.

They are still growing, slowly, they are really close to the lights. Also, I noticed that the fuller tray seems to have two types in there that are distinctly different. The tray on the right are yellow colored (5 old seeds but enough still germinated) and the tray on the left are all bicolored red with yellow. I wonder if I picked seeds from two different species. It will be interesting to find out, maybe I have weeds..lol.. in there too

Hi.... I've kept some coneflowers I started from seed in a oak 1/2 barrel for years! They do great.... I also am keeping a salvia (Bog Sage - can't remember it's other name) in a large container as to keep it from spreading too much. Again, doing very well.

I really have no business posting because I haven't the foggiest idea about coneflowers in containers but I've been wanting to move some coneflowers (planted, of course, by DH) and was told that they have very deep taproots and that they do not like to move. Also, there's a coneflower Forum!
