Anyone know if Creeping Phlox does okay in the full sun in Houston? There is a co-op and the description says Zone 9, but that doesn't always mean it will do okay in Houston.
Thanks.
Creeping Phlox
They can take full sun, heat and humidity, but are rather particular about moisture and drainage, they detest clay. I Planted some on a slope and in a raised container beds. Both had good drainage but it was harder to keep the ones on the slope watered and those died. The phlox in raised containers are over seven years old and still going strong, even through last years drought. I wouldn't invest a lot into them until you know if you have the perfect spot. HTH
Thanks for the input. I doubt that I have the perfect spot, especially if they detest clay. I have amended the area, but there definitely is still clay and I was thinking of planting them near some roses, which require a good bit of water.
That's really a shame because I think it would have looked great. Now I have to come up with another idea for the border. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
