if you are come over to the co-op section and read that thread.
why is no one interested in mums? don't they grow everywhere here, returning year after year with little or no care? lol.
is anyone interested in ordering mums?
see what i mean? explain why no one in texas likes to grow mums? somebody ought to at least talk to me.
I will talk to you Barbara, I don't order mums because they are not native and i am trying to concentrate just on those, but I think they are beautiful.
I do have an old fashioned one that a friend gave 30 years ago, it is perennial and has taken care of itself all this time.
The flowers a many petaled lavender with a very light color center, very pretty.
Josephine.
Well the ones I have will get very tall and fall over before blooming, so I cut them back around July, they still flop, but not as much.
I love mums, but have had way to many already for my garden - and with the move just not adding many plants right now. I have found the mums you buy at the store will come back and bloom in June if you take care of them.
I don't have mums. I've never had mums... I don't know why
I like mums, but I have too many other things I want to try. There's just not enough space for everything!
josephine i bet you have clara curtis mums. they only bloom in the fall. but there are tons of mums that bloom spring and fall. and those football mums!!! and the fact that after they start blooming....late aug./sept. we have months left for them to keep blooming.
and go look at kings mums site. just to see how pretty they are. we just never see varieties like these around here. at least i don't. if any of you do lmk where you see them. or look at faribault nursery mums.
and cocoa...if you get the shorter cushion or button mums you can pinch or not. if you pinch they do form more branches but sometimes i do and sometimes i don't. they still bloom beautifully and are still full...even one little plant can put on a great show. the ones i have lived thru the year of the drought and then last year they lived thru the monsoons. i have them stuck way out there and never water them. never do anything to them except occ. i will go out there and pinch off all the old blooms so they can start again. and they always do....for months. with NO care at all...in texas. go look at 'em.
well i am going to get me some mums and then i am going to bring some to one of the swaps.......in full bloom....and i am going to just let them sit there for ya'll to drool over. and you're gonna love 'em and be wantin' to swap me a first born or something.
at least ya'll talked to me. that's something. lol.
well better late then never that I ran across this I happen to like mums they are so pretty. I just haven't gotten any yet ......soo many things to do and try and get with moving LOL
but in time I will work my way to getting everything.
and mama when they bloom post some pictures please.
Forget pictures. When they all bloom, we are all going out to her house and taking divisions.
sounds good to me LOL
LOL.
Hey, Barb? I ordered that pretty little red phygelius from Big Dipper a couple of months ago. They'll ship it early next month. I dunno what size they will ship. Since it's mail order, it will probably be pretty small. I wanted a bigger plant, but couldn't find one. I hunted and hunted. I asked Calloway's (the place I got it originally) to special order one for me, and they wouldn't. So I e-mailed the hybridizer. Apparently, Big Dipper is the only place in America that anyone knows of that has this particular cultivar!
Anyway, as soon as it's big enough to get a start going, your name is on it. It grows pretty well, so hopefully that'll happen by fall.
gaw-leee! thank you. i have some other phygelius cultivars that i can share as well. also have some seeds i plan on sowing. and another also, there was a place in the classifieds a week or so ago that has several phygelius varieties so go look. one of them was just gorgeous. also, i have some pretty big plants that i traded for late in the summer. 3-4 varieties. they are still evergreen even with all of the below freezing temps we have had. now we just gotta see how they fare during a texas summer.
now folks...that mum co-op has opened. i have asked for 3 yrs. for someone to run one of these. never any takers. so this year meet the 2008 DAVES GARDEN MUM DISTRIBUTOR.........yep, yours truly. pray that all goes well. and if you have not looked at mums just go to the co-op site and see what mums that never come to texas can look like.
guess who is helping me? heeheehee

here is the link because i just knew you folks were going to try and ignore my mum plea once again. now if yall are strong enough just don't even look but if you do decide to look i just can't say what you might do and i ain't responsible. don't have any husbands calling me, ya hear. lol.
has anyone talked to smockette?
There were phygelius on a classified ad? How did I miss that? I can't find it now--do you remember who the vendor was?
I had mine most of last summer. It did fine in the heat, until we had an 8-day watering mishap in August. It did like just a little afternoon shade, though. So pretty. I think they are all evergreens, aren't they?

the ad is gone now. she was just a nursery that had lots of plants. you had to visit her site. she had 3-4 varieties of phygelius too. i can't remember the name of the nursery though. is there a way to look at old classifieds?
I don't think so. :(
HA!!!! found it. this place has it for sale but google peach trombone phygelius for a picture.
