Hi folks! Here is a little Verdin wiping his bill on a branch after eating from a sliced orange. I live in a very dry zone 7(Rio Grande Valley, New Mexico). We only get maybe 10 inches of rain a year. The soil is very sandy. I pretty much am going to replant my whole rural/suburban lot this year. Does anyone have any plant recommendations as far as providing food for the birds?
Thanks!

Hi angele, Heres a list of native plants or shrubs for NM. Those that berry like the serviceberry would be very good for birds.

thank you so much pelletory! Much appreciated! Now to study the plant lists...
You all probably know about this search but I just found it though I have long been a visitor to the LBJ Wildflower website. I was able to search for plants native to NM & then narrowed my search to my soil conditions. That returned 64 plants. Since I want to do my whole yard I didn't narrow my search any further. Now I can look through these plants to find the ones most beneficial to birds & butterflies
Yippee, just what I was looking for! Doing a happy dance in NM

I just checked for FL. Says the birds like beauty berry. Thats exciting, I love the fushia berries..stragly bush. It will be staying. I was suprised at how many non-schrub plants they like.
