episcia cuttings

North Providence, RI

Hi All,
I purchased a new epicia suomi and it had a trailer that seemed like it was wilting. I removed the trailer and put it in water for now, but I don't know if they root in water. I would love to know what the best way is to propogate from cuttings.

Thanks,

I don't know for sure if they root in water, but I've had good luck sticking then into moist potting mix. Just leave a bit of stem on the stolon cuttings (half an inch, 2 inches, doesn't seem to matter much I think) and stick it into a little pot (those little plastic dixie cups are great for small cuttings, be sure to make a hole for drainage). It can help to pop a plastic bag or a dome over the top to keep a little extra humidity in until it roots.

Good luck!

Hi from a former Rhode Islander( Warwick)!!!!

A lady at my bank roots the stolens in water.Talked to her the other day and she said thats the only way shes ever done it.

I'm going to try this with some extras... it'll be an easier way to send them home with folks at the swap this month than as little potted plants... Thanks!

I got a little tiny piece of one in a RR and rooted it in water successfully.
Good luck!

Thanks for the tips people. I took it out of the water yesterday, because it was looking more wilted than it was before I put it there, and potted the main shoot in one pot and a leaf in another. We shall see.....

Hey, Jannich, it's good to see a Rhode Islander enjoying warmer weather! LOL! Do you like it better down there?
