GIANTS WIN SUPERBOWL

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

Congratulations New Yorkers! You definitely deserved that game. Pardon my French, but the Pats sucked. Oh, they had one fleeting moment in the 4th quarter. The Giants offensive line got Brady, which got them the game.

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Yea for the Giants - they played a good game!!!! Eleanor

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

It was a decent game.. That catch by Tyree was amazing, must have a rubber spine to hang on.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Yes the catch by Tyree was awesome but the big blue D did what they had to do THE WHOLE GAME. I think Tom was a bit rattled,.

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

{{sigh}}
At least it wasn't a slaughter.

Nancy >> a NYer - a Washington Redskin fan & was cheering for the Pts.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Nancy, I can understand why you root for the Redskins. The NY Giants are actually a NEW JERSEY team. But why you want the Pats to win is beyond me.......;~)

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

No need to duck!! It wouldn't be a very good game with fans cheering for just one team. They are both good teams with lots of fans and played a great game and that's what it is - a game!! Sure kept us on the edge of our seats! Eleanor

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

The Giants, just like the Jets, only play in NJ - they have had several homes in the past, including Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium. They are a NY Team. Just as Dallas doesn't play in Dallas. They play in Irving..soon to be Arlington.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

You're so right, Anita!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

It was a real good game. I was especially happy to win two quarters on my pool. I almost had the first one too....missed it by seconds.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

My record is unbroken! The Patriots lose . . . of course, since I was hoping for my students that they would win . . . .

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I had wanted the Pats to go undefeated, but it is something for the Manning family to get 2 in a row, and for little brother to live up to big brother, which is what I was thinking a couple weeks ago. Too bad the Pats looked so bad.

Metrowest, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh boy I was so not looking forward to coming into work today. I tell ya I have never seen such big sports fans than I have in MA. They start fans young too! I had never heard of school having school spirit days for football/baseball before moving here 5 years ago. I thought football was big in the south growing up but they take it to a new level here lol.

P.s Congrats to New York. That game was a good game to the end!

Was a great game - probably the most exciting one. As I said on the other thread, I too consider both teams NJ, not NY. They abandoned us, though at least the Jets tried to come back with the stadium but the pols shot it down. I'm for a name change. Now both their offices and training facilities will be in NJ once the new stadium is built. All taxes and economic benefit goes to NJ. NY should get its own team.

The final drive was incredible for a number of plays. They made that 4th and 1 also - many forget that. And Manning wiggling away to throw that pass to Tyree was no small task!

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

venu - I wanted the Pats to win for different reasons.
1. Just to witness a bit of history - a total winnning season.
2. I like Boston (the city) -- LOL! I still slip &call them the "Boston Patriots" from time to time.
3. Some of the Giant fans I used to work with were SO obnoxious. I'm very glad I retired & didn't have to be there today. I know one guy in particular would make a point of passing my desk at least 10 times day, just to rub it in. I don't like sore losers, but I HATE snotty winners.
4. As far as NY teams go, I'm more of a Jets fan anyway. The Jets were the reason I started watching football to begin with - back in the days of Super Bowl III with Joe Namath.

I started following he Redskins when my sister moved to VA. I met a lot of them who attended the same church as she did. That includes my favorite player (now retired) - Darrell Green. He's a really nice guy and does a lot for inner city kids by way of a foundation he started.
A couple of times when I was there, he had a bus bringing the kids from D.C. to church.
I was excited to hear that he & Art Monk were both voted into the Football Hall of Fame.

Nancy

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm a big Darrell Green fan too, Nancy. Man, that could fly - even when he was at the end of his career!

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

Victor - I always refer to the two teams as the "Jersey Giants" and "Jersey Jets". I wish they'd just change their names and be done with it.
The only real NY team right now is the Buffalo Bills.

Nancy

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

True, but I want a NYC area team! Buffalo is too far away. Philly is closer!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Yeah - East and West.

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

Darrell was going to retire after 19 years but decided to stay one more year to make it an even 20.
I last saw him a little over a year ago at my sister's church. He said h misses playing, but it's nice to wake up on Monday mornings and not be all sore. He doesn't miss the pain, that's for sure!

I don't know how they do it. I wouldn't survive the opening kickoff!
LOL!

Nancy

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Victor - I doubt they will change their name to reflect NJ - there's more money to be made being a "NY" team......

"Anaheim Angels"....changed to "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" to get the TV game coverage and advertising they could not get when they were "just" the Anaheim Angels.....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh I agree. I don't expect a change - but I would like it.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Anita & pirl - even though the Dallas team doesn't play in Dallas, at least they play in Texas... Victor - do you think it would be better for the NY teams to play somewhere outside the city, as long as they were in the state? That sounds fair-er to me....

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, but that ain't happening. They're getting a brand new stadium and facilities in Jersey.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Amy - I have a connection to the Mara family so I'll always root for the Giants even if they were to become the NJ Giants.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i grew up in STL where we had the baseball Cardinals and the football Cardinals. Now, the Cardinals are in AZ, and the LA Rams are in STL. (i don't know who is in L.A.) But it makes it hard for me to feel attached to any team. If i was going to watch football, i think it'd be college...

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

Ooooo... a connection to the Mara family? Cool.

I've eaten Beef Wellington.
Does that count?

Nancy ~~~~ known for her lame jokes.

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

My step-father had no favorite team.
He'd just root for the offense.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What's a Mara with you, Nancy?!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Hiss, boo, Victor!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I thought it was cute!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It was very Victor.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Okay there is no scientific reasoning for this, but I have always felt the Jets were the true NY team and the Giants were the NJ team by default. BUT, Nj is sometimes like Ireland (we don't know what we want) Because just south of where I live they root for the Eagles. Doh!!! My boss and I got into it. She hates the Giants, nooo she just hates Eli. I told her she is not allowed to hate Eli unless she is truly a Giants fan. And if she is really and truly a Giants fan she is allowed to hate Eli 6 games ago but not now. But if she is an Eagles fan(and she is) then sit down, be quiet, and ponder Donavan.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very good, Weeze. Sports do weird things to us, don't they?!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Quoting:
then sit down, be quiet, and ponder Donavan.

sunshine superman?
mellow yellow?
hurdy gurdy man?
atlantis?

i like to ponder Donovan - though not as much as i did as a teenager...

Yonkers, NY(Zone 5b)

Re: the name issue (NY/NJ)
Apparently co-owner John Mara considers them a NJ team.
There was an article in today's NY Daily News about the celebration held at the Meadowlands.
Mind you - this was AFTER the big parade in NYC. AFTER a million people stood there for hours before the parade started. AFTER the Giants stood on the steps of City Hall and received the Keys to the City - New York City.

Quoting:
Giants co-owner John Mara told fans he really felt like a Super Bowl champion when he drove into the Meadowlands parking lot and saw the outpouring of support.

"There's no place like home. There's no fans like Giants fans," Mara said.

OK - so there's no place like HOME.
If that's HOME - then it's the New Jersey Giants.

Nancy ~~~ getting off the soapbox.... for now.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm clapping, Nancy!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I say give 'em the keys to Trenton, we'll keep our keys here! ☺

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Okay, it's all just a game anyway. I don't know how or why I became such a football fanatic, but my SO was stunned when he realized I had just as good a grasp of the game as he did. And he coached football for 6 years. On the other hand, I had 4 FREE tickets to a Nets basketball game and couldn't give them away.
WC...Trenton's making a comeback LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Because the Nets stink this year!
