Has anyone tried to grow the fresh tubers from their local Chinese grocery. I have looked in passing in the past and have found some tubers have a "bud" between the "sausage links". I would like to try some in a zone 5b pond (in Nova Scotia) but I don't want spend a greaty deal of $$ on this experiment. I grow my elephant ears, purchased from the local Carribean grocery for about 50cents a pound. I like bargains. Robb. MacNeil
Lotus roots from grocery store
Hadn't ever thought about trying that Robb-good idea! How much do you see the lotus tubers going for at the grocer? I would love to try it if they were cheap enough, seeing as how lotus don't do very well here with our dry heat.
Art... I would be suprised if they are more than a couple of dollars each since they are sold as a root veg. for cooking. Robb.
I have a friend who buys different kinds of tubers at the grocery store for plants. He buys one thing that turns is an elephant ear and some other stuff, I will contact him and see what all he buys and what has worked for him. He has a water garden so maybe he has tried it.
