Recommend an evergreen?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm trying to decide on an evergreen for the garden. I would like something that doesn't get too big. I was looking at Thuja or Leyland Cypress, but I think those get too wide.
Can anyone recommend something that will work in San Antonio?

I have a Norfolk pine that I love. I bought my house 5 years ago, and my predecessor had planted it. It was about 3 maybe 4 feet high. It's now taller than the house and probably the prettiest thing in the garden which kind of irritates me since I didn't plant it! It did inspire me to plant more evergreens but they are all still young and small, so I don't know how they will perform. Anyway, here's a pic of mine on this cloudy, wet day!

You might want to move it... they get much bigger. Had one in Mexico taller then a two story home, the size of a big oak tree.

That being said they are a great tree...

Adding Mountian Laurel - blooms to and wonderful green leaves, Evergreen sumac is another choice that is great in the garden.

Hey, Mitch, I check on your little evergreen sumac start this morning. I didn't plant it last fall because it was so little--we had yard work going on, and I didn't want it to get overlooked and stepped on or anything. I was surprised to see how much it's grown! Now I need to find a good place for it.

:-) They are great plants and I love getting more people to know about them and grow them.

are you only looking at fir type trees? or by evergreen do you mean all types of plants?
