plants with "Jean' or 'Grandmother' in the name

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Hello,

My grandmother passed away this week and I would like to plant some plants in her memory in my garden. Her first name was Jean. Does anyone know of any plants with 'Jean' in the name, or perhaps a name with reference to 'Grandmother'?

Thanks, Kim

North Augusta, ON

A plant files search of Jean came up with this:

Thanks, there are daylilies I would be interested in from that list....both daylily 'Jean' and daylily 'Grandma Jean'. I need to go looking now.

there is a tall bearded iris named 'dear jean'. i don't think i have it anymore but i am sure it would be easy to find.

sorry to hear about your grandmother, kim.

The plumeria is beautiful, but unfortunately would not be hardy here, and I am trying to limit the amount of plants I bring in every winter. But thank you.

The dahlia is also very beautiful. Does anyone know if they are hardy here or do they need dug for winter?

mamajack....I love the iris, I will see if I can locate it. And thank you, it has been hard on all of us, but she isn't suffering anymore for which I am glad.

The dahlia growers down south I know leave them in over winter, need more mulch and a bit of afternoon shade if possible. They would still need to be dug up and thinned out every 2-3 years.

blue eyes...i can't help very much on the dahlias. i have never had much success with them. i was told that the main reason they wouldn't do very well here is the wind so the smaller flowering and shorter ones should do better. also, the only ones i have ever tried came from walmart. some came up for a year or two but never looked even remotely like the pictures. some never even came up. i tried the year of the drought and before that year. last year might have been a good year to try with all the rain but i didn't.

Blue_eyes I know you are going to miss your grandmother. What a sweet tribute to her with a memory garden. There is a columbine cultivar called 'Grandmother's Garden'; Aquilegia vulgaris. I'll look to see if I have seeds.

The daylily "Jean" is on the lily auction for $5.00 istant buy. I don't know how to insert a link--maybe someone else will help if you aren't familiar with that site.

Someone else mentioned that as well...I'm not sure how you use that as I have never been on it. Perhaps in the future someone will have some to trade.

Cordeledawg....thank you, I would love to try those seeds if you find some.
