I have been digging around in my photos and found this picture that I took of a woodcock that I found sitting on eggs. I had been clearing brush that had grown up under an old apple tree and was piling it nearby. I had created a rather large pile and when I climbed up on top to press it down this woodcock that had been completely still and unseen by me started to try to fly up from under the brush that I had placed on top of her. I was amazed that she stayed so still during all of the activity that was taking place around her. After she flew away I quickly left the area and worked elsewhere. The next day I went back to see if she had come back to her four eggs and this is the picture that I took of her. What a good mother!

Aw she is a good Mother!
Thanks for finding the pics to share with us!
She really blends well. She's very hard to see in the second picture. Thanks for showing us that.
That's a wonderful story & the photos are great! I'm glad she didn't get too ruffled. :-)
Isn't Mother Nature grand! She is well camouflaged, but I finally spotted her centered perfectly in the middle of the 2nd picture. Your shot definitely did her justice. Thanks for posting as I have never even seen a picture of a woodcock. In our area, we mostly have water birds.
