Thanks for your great article! I've been doing everything right, it looks like. Except I have my containers on the south side of the house in full sun - should I move them? (We're having a warm week up here, so I could do it before they freeze to the ground again.)
Critterologist - Winter Sowing Article
Heya, Sue! I'm glad you liked the article... it was fun to write, especially since I got to feature Punxy Phil!
I'd move your containers to a more sheltered or partly shaded spot. When it starts to get warm, or even on a cooler but sunny day, the seedlings will heat up pretty fast in their little "greenhouses," and they can cook...
Thanks a bunch!
Good luck, and have fun with them!
I did move them two days ago - good thing, it's 10 out today with a wind chill of below 0!
I'm working on my Wintersowing seeds for my Cottage Garden, too. I hope they add your article to the WS sticky thread--lots of good info there!
Ordered a bunch of campanula seeds from Specialty Perennials yesterday and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get the seeds before winter is over! (I read the Garden Watchdog posts on their shipping problems).
But Specialty Perennials always has such an interesting range of offerings that I can't resist!
I can't wait to read the 'sequel' to your article, Critter!?
LOL! I've got a bunch of articles on various topics in the "pipeline," and I'm hoping to submit a spring planting article on winter sowing... my "working title" is "What to do with 10,000 Spring Sprouts in your Winter Sowing Containers." :-)
I still have a lot of sowing to do!
Ha, ha! Good topic! Isn't that the truth!
Good luck!
