About the only plant blooming here is a dendrobium orchid, cultivar unknown, that I rescued from a box store in September. It was healthy, but had finished blooming, so was on the clearance rack. I brought it home, mounted it on a piece of driftwood and it said thanks by sending out another spike! I like those kind of thank you's.
If the picture angle looks odd, it's for a good reason. To get a decent shot, I had to shoot straight up, so the white background is the sunrooms ceiling.
My Oliver tropical hibiscus does have a bud, so hopefully, in a few days I'll have another bloom to show off.

Speaking of winter blooms....
Wow, it sure is pretty. My orchids have never bloomed...at least not for me...
I have been unable to get my orchid to bloom again...the first go around 5 mths ago was awesome...it gets bright light, I feed it orchid food, keep it moist...what am I doing wrong.. {sniff sniff}}
Barb-yours is my fav color -it sure is pretty! enjoy those blooms!
Don't orchids bloom for a long time then don't bloom for a long time? I thought that it was months at a time both ways.

Hey Core! how r u
my book says 3 months..but hey what does it know...LOL
It depends on the kind. Some brassavolas can bloom almost continuously, where phaleonopsis's tend to only bloom once a year.
Barb
Red, you can go to Carter and Holmes and get one in bud and it will bloom for months. If I lived in Newberry my house would be full of orchids, I love going to that place.
ardesia - they are sooo expensive there! I am a dirt poor gardener - no pun intended LOL I went there once and applied for a job in their greenhouse...but unfortun. they did not pay more then min wage..and if you want the maximum work outta me then you better pay me maxiumum pay... :)~
Oh how sad that they are expensive now. You used to be able to get a 5' or 6' budded Phal for about 10 dollars and once I picked up a huge dendrobium for about $35. That plant bloomed steadily for about 5 months and after a rest it started blooming again for me. Somehow, during it's resting period one year I lost it in the garden and when I found it again it had dried up and died but what bang for the buck while it was alive.
I just checked and this dend has been blooming since right after T'giving.
I've temporarily lost an orchid in the yard before. It was a very small cattleya and I was collecting all the orchids after dark to bring them in when it was going to get in the low 30's this past Dec. I found it the next morning and it's still kinda PO'd, but will be fine.

This winter I saw orchids in Lowes for $11 on the discount rack and the orchid lady in bluffton sells them for $15.
Doing fine BTW Red.
Beautiful! You have done well with them Deb.
Deb - they are both beautiful!

Two of mine are getting ready to bloom. One has two bloom stalks. can't wait!
