Jannich, I couldn't get the thread to open and I have high speed internet so I am starting a new thread for you all.
'Tiger' trying to open up. I got this one in Beorne at Hill Country as a starter plant. The one I grew from leaf is twice its' size but doesn't want to bloom.
Anything Blooming? part 2
Holy smoke Strepwoman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful as always.
I think the deep dark secret you sent to me will be opened tommorow.I'll send a picture.
Thanks for starting a new thread.I thought it was just my dial up service being so slow.
Good Morning Gail, I had to come back this morning to look again at your beautiful pictures. Now I will have a good day!
Hey everybody! Well, you may have thought you got rid of me...but you didn't! LOL The holidays have become almost more than I can handle, and we have a life change headed our way, which I'm stressing over a lot, so I did what I always do when I'm overstressed and put myself on auto-pilot, just getting through each day and whatever comes at me. But I have missed y'all SOOO much, so I wanted to pop in and say hi to all of you.
Not much going on around here in the plant department. Most of them are learning to live with the minimum of water and care, but I haven't lost any that I didn't purposely throw away, so that's good. I've got a couple pictures, but nothing to rival your fabulous display above, Gail! You grow some of the most beautiful plants I've ever seen!
Petrocosmea forrestii is promising many blooms, which I'm so excited to see. Ignore the ugly, dried up, yellowed outer leaves. It's not super happy with the lack of humidity that comes with gas heat.
An Orchid, not a Gessie, but still one of my favorite plants, Phal. Fortune Buddha x Brother Pumpkin. It has put up a second spike and these are the flowers that have just opened in the last week or so. Glad I got it when I did. I paid $15 or $20 for it, but the lady has it on eBay and the bid is up to $42!
I'll not be so scarce from now on, I promise! Hugs to you all! :o)
Welcome Back Amy.......you have certainly been missed.
SO glad to see you posting again :)
Woohoo ... look at that Pet - can't wait to see the opened blooms on that one! And, that Orchid bloom is really stunning! What do you feed your plants, Amy? I am just about out of VF-11 and need to order more ... just procrastinating since I have to order an entire case and shipping ain't cheap all the way from California!
Again, Welcome home to the garden! You and your expertise have sorely been missed!
Good morning, Miss Amy.......We love you and miss you so much. I was going to take a break from Dave's for a while as my plants are being neglected and laundry, too! (LOL)
Love your orchid......WOW......your petrocosmea looks better than mine........drat it!!!
Mine was looking great and starting to bloom but the symmetry is bad.......I guess I can pull the outer leaves off if it continues to bloom. I put it in a 5" container and I think it would have been better in a 4"
Hey Ladies: There's a guy on the Beginner forum asking for advice about his AV's. I answered his question to the best of my knowledge but thought maybe some of y'all might have some advice for him? He isn't a paid subscriber so he can't access this forum. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/808443/
I have to share every single thing I learn. I was talking to a man today who has over 300 streps and we were talking about propagation. I asked him how he could contain that many streps to several gro light stands. He gave me a wonderful secret about propagating.
the short of it is: He puts down a wedge and when the babies are a nice size....a couple of inches tall at least, he takes a big spoon and plants the mother and the babies in a big pot. When the mother is ready to leave, he just scoops her out and he has a big plant with several crowns in a short time. If anyone wants a plant, he just separates it out of the big pot. Sounds fabulous to me and cuts out a lot of labor .........
gail
jannich,
I love the Royal Wasp! I have one from Snowrose and another blue tail..............the one Snow sent was called Merlot Senk..........I have extras and will continue to grow them...........someday we can trade leaves........(I have plants for you as there are many of these)
Hi there Gail,

I am on overload right now, but you know I will bug you.........I have been potting up streps to 3" pots all day long........I still have a tray in 2" pots.........that I need to do in the morning or tonight if I get a second wind. (fat chance)
Just for color i grabbed my camera and too tired to give you the names tonight....my avs think that spring is here...........and they are starting to bloom

you will really like them gail, they are pretty easy to grow.
mrsbonnie
They haven't been easy for me but i am not giving up, mrsbonnie! I always do better from seed than 'inheriting' a plant so we shall see! Yours and Jan's are always so nice.
