I've heard that nice straight black walnut trees 20 years old are as valuable as mahogany for veneer. Does anyone know how much, ballpark?
black walnut trees as veneer, how much is one worth??
I'm not sure of the value of walnut other than you can get a lot for a good tree. But I believe that a tree that is only 20 years old is way too young.
20 years old isn't old enough. They are worth more than most trees but you would have to call up a timber place to find out exactly. The other thing is what they pay you for a whole tree and what they charge people to buy the venner are two different things. You can buy walnut for furniture making so an older tree is worth more because you can get bigger pieces out of it.

I had a black walnut tree cut off at ground level as I wanted it removed. It was about 35 years old. The tree surgeon said that it was not very valuable as it was too blond...looked dark to me. He said the desirable ones had shaggier bark.
But blondes are more fun...
