think I have too much shade; would rather grow perennials. 'course if a flat of them appeared in my local nursery, they might become a border for the herb garden, the 1 sunny spot I have.

Yes, they do need sun, the flowers don't open on cloudy days so if they were in too much shade you'd never get to enjoy them. I'm not sure if they'd reseed for you or not which would make them almost as good as perennials!

Gazania rigens. Some of them have the most beautiful coloration. They love hot sun. I suspect they'd also love planters. :)
