1 duck killed and other one missing

Question for you out there. I am missing a 6 month old mallard and a HUGE white duck was killed. The other night they would not come down off the roof, most all other nights they are locked in the pen. They have stayed on the roof before. Well no signs of him at all. I found her headless and a hole in her back above the wings. Her spine was ripped out and left next to her. Nothing else eaten, and not a whole lot of blood. It looked to me she was walking back to the pen when she was hit. I found the kill area with a pool of blood, then she was brought about 10 feet to a pile of straw next to the pen, and that is where the rest happened. I'm not sure what killed her, due to a clean kill, and not much eaten. The next night her remains were drug away. I thought an owl, but now I question...Saw a racoon last night on my patio, and whent out front and there was a lot of noise at the pen area. She could fly, but what would get such a big duck? thank you for your help.

Maybe that coon, isn't that how they kill?

bless your heart, that is terrible!

i would suspect he coon, it must have snuck up on her. hopefully the other was frightened away and will be back soon.

we have lots of skunks right now, and have only managed to kill one. so we covered our pen, and i go out and herd the ducks in at night. they just love sitting out under the moon, but i don't want to chance it. i haven't seena coon lately, but i know they come around...

i hope you find your other duck soon...

Thank you, I hope he comes back soon too. So, that sounds like the work of a coon?
