New to this, advice ? Just received Lucky Star / ebay order

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

Here's a picture.... love plumerias and am moving to CA in the early summer. Well, I've been very good and haven't ordered from the catalogs that arrive daily, but did bid and win 'Lucky Star' ... now need to do what with it until we move. lol - not good planning, I know.

Help! Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Redtootsiepop, that looks like a nice cutting. It looks like that branch bloomed before it was cut because you can see where the inflo was, and a new branch is forming there. Plumerias usually branch when they bloom, but sometimes the branch won't show up until a little later.

A heating pad is really crucial to rooting this time of year if you plan on rooting it now, or you could wait until warm weather arrives. Check out the Sticky on rooting cuttings when you get a chance as it is filled with good information about rooting. Congrats on your new acquisition! Ebay can be a tough place to find healthy cuttings so you did good.

Thanks Clare, it does look good and healthy - I've been reading the sticky and have gotten lots of good info. I will pot this (inside). I'm sure it will be overjoyed to move to sunny CA (if I don't kill it)

I bought it from a grower in HI - he had great feedback. I think I paid $8.?

That's a great deal;-) Was it from Matt? He sells some nice cuttings if it was and is a fellow collector.

I got it from 1-STOP-Aloha ?? Not sure what the gentleman's name is. He does have alot of positive feedback.

Yeah, that's Matt. He used to live in San Diego but moved to Hawaii a couple of years ago and has his own business now. He's on our safe eBay sellers list.

oh how fantastic ! I already left him positive feedback, I know if I kill this, it will be completely my fault !

Not at all;-) All of us have had cuttings rot on us at one time or another or for one reason or another. I'm sure yours will root fine. Just remember that bottom heat is the key;-)

I love Matt. I've gotten some great plumies from him.

Ditto on Matt and my Lucky Star rooted easily.

I do think it's a nice cutting, so far so good - I'm obsessively checking for rot : ) but it looks good right now.

The more you mess with it, the worse it will do in my experience. Leave it alone, don't kill it with kindness. LOL
As long as the soil is warm enough, it gets enough light, and the soil is not sopping wet it should root just fine.
