Hi all! I know I haven't been in this forum for a while, but since it's winter here, and all my brugs are dormant in the garage, I've been hanging out in the bird watching forum.
As my daughter has become interested in bird watching along with butterfly raising, and brugmansias, all of which she learned about here, on DG, I was thinking that maybe it would be a good thing if DG offered a forum for teens, so that those who are already subscribed, and lurk, could have a common place to go to "talk" to their peers, trade information, develop friendships, etc. -- all the things that the adult DG'ers already share.
Initially, I thought having a forum for kids would be a good idea, but I was advised that by law, the minimum age to obtain a membership here is 13. So, the initial thought of a forum for kids was revised so that teens could have a forum.
If you think this is a good idea, please go to this thread and state your thoughts. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/806543/
Many thanks for you thought and consideration! :)
OT Teen forum interest
Teen gardening, what a good idea. Yet another great hobby for teens. I have a teenage son who loves to garden and has become interested in brugs a few yrs ago. He has the Naughty Nick brug which I bought for him because his name is Nick lol. He has learned to start his own cuttings as well. My other teenage son likes to hybridize plants and likes butterflies and moths.
My daughter just turned 13 and does not care for plants at all LOL! She is into garden art though and makes all kinds of neat things.
Thanks Angel! That's good to hear. There's three teens right there that would be interested. And, if this service were provided for free on gardens.com, that would probably make them even more interested, right?
If you could, just make a post on the link provided above. That's the "official" head count thread of those interested in seeing this happen.
Thanks again!
Felicia, I do hope it becomes a reality. It sounds like such a healthy way to entertain teens! I am all for it. Unfortunately, my teen is not into gardening at all.
Thanks Joyce!
Even though my daughter is not 13 yet, I would still like to see it happen, especially since there are teen subscribers out there. I guess this would be the equivalent to the "retiree" forum -- but a place for a younger generation to go.
Unfortunately, there have not been many responses to my thread, and I know there are lots of members out there with teens. :(
I'd love it if my teen.. or any teen around here was into gardening or nature! What a wonderful thing! I do hope you can generate enough response to get it done for the "gems" that are around.,.... I love the concept.
