I don't know if this is the normal season for them, but a new Scilla peruviana I got last year is blooming now.

Lovely photo.

Scilla peruviana blooms in mid March in my Zone 9a garden. For me the bulbs sprout in early winter when the winter rains begin, bloom in March, and the leaves disappear in the summer when the bulbs go dormant.
I read that despite the name 'peruviana' they are a Mediteranean plant. There was a story that they got the name because they came to England on a ship named " Peru", but I am not sure if this is true.

I have this and it blooms in early summer. They are quite spectacular, my sister gave me the bulbs and she lives in zone 10 but mine have done well up here in the wet .

Todd, Great news, I have wanted to try some in my cool GH. Now I will. Any advice for GH growing. I enjoyed your latest article about Primula very much. Now lusting more than ever for some more. Patti
