Hello All.
I have two large Cassia alatas that I am overwintering in my basement with very little light. I cut them back virtually to the ground last November and have been watering them very lightly once a week since then. There is not green on them at all, but the stems seem firm and they are definitely not rotting. Is there any chance I will see new growth on them this spring, or are they most likely doomed? Andy advice would be appreicated.
Thank you.
Erick
Cassia alata Question
lightly scratch the bark at the top and see if you see green underneath, if so then its alive and you should see growth once the temps and sun increase. If you don't see green at the top, work your way down to the bottom looking for green under the bark. The tips may be dead, but not at the base.
Thank you very much tigerlily123. I took a small knife and lightly scratched the bark all the way to the soil line and didn't see any green. However, the root system is pretty substantial, so I'll lightly water them and keep them in a warm bright room and perhaps I will get lucky. Otherwise, I'll start them from seed again and try overwintering them next year a different way.
