Card reader just quit working

My desktop has a multi memory card reader- it just suddenly quit reading my memory stick from my Sony camera. The light stays on even when the computer is turned off. I have done a system restore, went to device manager and uninstalled a line that had an "!" in front-(it just comes back)- I am having to use the USB cable to see my photos. Do you think the card reader has just died?
