Robins???

I have seen LOTS of robins lately. Isn't that unusual? Have they changed their habits or will Spring be early?

Haven't spotted them here. Mainly Blue Jays and Crows but I will be putting out food and I'll keep a watch for them.

I haven't either. Just the normal winter guys.

I saw one the other day too. Surprising.

I hear of some staying during the winter. Someone had bluebirds earlier this winter in the southern part of the state.

We've had flocks of robins and cedar waxwings here. They are all landing in the crabapple trees to eat any leftover fruit. I've seen a flock of about 50 robins in the woods where I walk the dogs. I don't know what they are eating there, but they must be finding something!

BUT, is this Al Gorism ??? I think the robin I saw the other day was a stupid Robin. It was too cold for me. If I had wings I'd go south! Silly birds

Maybe the robins can't stand the fried food and the endless buffets.

I haven't seen ANY birds for this last month. I was wondering about them. I haven't had to fill the bird feeder in a long time.

Co-worker told me she saw one a few days ago, but I haven't.

Hmm. I have had lots of birds at my feeder, including nice yellow ones - finches?

How come I haven't seen birds here lately. Last month I put out bread and apples. After two weeks the squirrel found it, but no birds. Hmmmm

I get the most birds with black sunflower seeds.

They always visit for water. The breadcrumbs are always gone by the next day so it's either the possum or the crows.

They come to my pond for the water - another nice feature of the pond.

That's what I've got! Black sunflower seeds. I also have a clean saucer of water for them, except when it's frozen. There's a water ditch along the side of my property.

Harper - maybe you have the birds who want the fried food and they're the real snow birds!

LOL - the deer are eating alot of my bird food and the fat squirrels are finishing off the rest.
What do bats eat in the winter? Batman/woman - any ideas?

They probably eat bird food!

Harper - put up a sign, ala Florida, "Early bird specials".

And dig up some worms to help.

Last year I had a couple of robins show up in mid February.
I was surprised to see them that early.
They ate the berries on the hedges and the chokeberries on the tree I have in a pot in my yard.
I put out raisins to help them out since they weren't interested in the seed at the feeders.
They were bullies at the bird bath & wouldn't let any other birds drink when they were there.
They had by far the messiest poop of all the birds - probably due to the berries.

I felt kind of bad for them - they looked so out of place. Especially when it snowed.
They looked like they were saying, "Why the heck did we come back so early?!??!"
Were th trying to beat the traffic?

Paint the inside of your bath black and it will melt a lot faster.

My winter birdbath is plugged in.
It's not really heated, it just keeps the water above freezing.
If it's bitter cold and snowy, it will freeze around the perimeter, but the middle is accessible to the birds.
Once there were 15 mourning doves crammed around it, drinking away.
I wish I had had the camera handy that time.

I've got Blue Jays and Cardinals which demand their peanuts everyday, then Juncos, nuthatches & finches which I feed Black Oil seed to. I have to get a heater for my fountain as well. I need to put an extension out there... ☺

If you put some "hot" water out in the bird bath - a lot of the birds will take a bath even though temps are really cold. When I'd pour hot tap water into it to thaw it out, minutes later a bluejay would be in it taking a bath...
I'd put out some raisins, but I'm afraid my dogs would eat them... they think deer poop is yummy (ewww.)

We always have a few early arrivals in Feb. This year during the first cold spell of single digits a large flock of 20 -25 showed up here. I don't know if they were going south or coming back up north. Some do occasionally stay the year round I have heard, but I have not seen this here. Since the last snow I have not seen them about, but that could be because the ground is totally covered with snow again or they have retreated south again.

I haven't seen many birds around here lately either and was wondering what was going on. 3 squirrels though.

I saw one bird at the feeder today. Just one, and just once.

Yesterday there was a crow chipping at the ice in the bird bath.
