If you could choose a place . . .

Buffalo, MN(Zone 4a)

If you could choose any place to go/live to view hummingbirds during the winter months, where would it be (In the US)?

Someday I'll get to retire and I would like to spend my time with lots of birds-especially hummers!
I love this video on YouTube but I haven't figured out exactly where it was made (somewhere in AZ):

Thanks!

Wow, Jesse had a lot of visitors! It must take him all day to fill and refill those feeders!

He could be in Sierra Vista or near there, it's supposed to be the Hummingbird Capitol in the US:

I would love to go to Ecuador, it looks like a beautiful place and they have over 130 species of hummers and twice as many birds as the US.

Before you buy real estate or sign a lease in some hummingbird paradise, you may want to take a trip to check out some of these birdy places with Elderhostel--

Some of the trips look rather interesting...

Wow, they have lots of great looking trips available!
Thanks for sharing this-

That's an amazing video! The greenery lends this to be in the higher elevations north of Phoenix. He wouldn't have many hummers in winter as they are all down here in the lower elevations where it's warmer.

Just think-I lived in Mesa for about 3 years (many years ago). That was before I spent much time thinking about birds-what a waste! I was more interested in cactus plants and desert wildflowers back then. I didn't realize that there were so many hummers in the Phoenix area-you always hear about Sierra Vista. Oh well. I always loved Arizona-it would probably be a great place for a winter get away except my husband has his heart set on somewhere near water (like the ocean).

South Venice, FL(Zone 9b)

Wowie, 9000 birds a day, 30 gallons of syrup, now that's dedication!
Deb thanks for the link.

The bad thing is the average home here doesn't really get hummers because they either don't have the right plants or they don't put out feeders. If everyone put feeders out, it would be amazing!

I understand looking for water to move to lol It's way hot here, as you know.

Gwynn's Island, VA(Zone 7b)

WOW! Sierra Vista looks like an amazing place. A few years ago we were in Big Bend National Park at the tip of Texas. That was an amazing birding place too. There were camping (RV and tent) sites where the main activity was trying to attract the best birds! Great fun!
