Grow lights in the garage?

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I just bought a nice cutting of a white Angel Trumpet off Ebay. This is my very first brug (for the longest time I didn't know what a brug was). I put it in a temporary pot and have it in my attached garage until Spring arrives. The temperature in the garage is around 50F so I'm thinking it should be OK in there. Should I keep my new plant under grow lights, which I keep on for 16 hours each day, or is it OK to keep it in the dark? I know it's a tropical plant so I'm guessing it should have light. I just wanted to make sure it flowers in the summer when it will be on display on my patio and not in my garage during the winter.

Thanks for your help.

Hi kcbronc;
Brugmansias likes cooler climate to grow and flourish. Overwintering them indoor needs the essentials. Moisture to root (relative humidity to the air and adequate circulation - I've a box fan that I use 24/7 in my basement). Light (doesn't matter what type of light - I use ordinary shop florescent light and it works, with reduced cost).
Best wishes.

Note: light is very important, small cuttings will wither away quickly without adequate light. I keep mine on 12 on/off. The bigger, established ones continue to blooms during this time of year. Our zones should be similiar.

Thanks for the response. That was very helpful.

Just for fun I cut off a small green stem, cut it in half and put both pieces in my hydroponics machine. After only a couple days it looks like there are already nubs forming. Man, this can get addicting. :-)
