Some pretty special seeds!

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

I received some pretty rare seeds from an arboretum in France. I can't provide a good home for them, but maybe you can? They sure deserve it!

Tuinkabouter,
I would like an Ovidia seed. What would you like in return?

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

oh the Fairyduster is very pretty....

I love looking at new plants...

Chesapeake, VA

I like the Fairyduster, too...

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Sorry folks, but the fairyduster has already flown out the window! It's darn difficult to keep hold of fairies.....

I still have Ovidia left. One of these goes to Brighstar. Would you like the other one, JennGroves?

These all look so fun, Tuin...But I don't know anything about them. Anything left that you think would do well in 7b? I'm game for anything new and cool:-)
Bev

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Hi Bev,

I don't know them either. But the Ribes-varieties stem from Chile and, based on what I know about Chile, should be quite hardy but also used to some heat (but not to the extremes). Would you want any of those?

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Sure, I'd love to try. Whichever one you think might do best. You could send them out with my poppy order next weekend, lol!
What can I do for you?

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Hi Bev,

I'll send you Ribes cucullatum. Do you have any seeds in return (cuttings and roots get snatched by customs)?

Just let me know....

I do have seeds. What kind are you looking for? I could make you a list, but it'll have to wait 'till later. Gotta get to work...elementary school is not forgiving if you are late. The kids won't be (late)!!
Will post back this afternoon.
Thanks!!

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

I'll wait for your list!

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh thank you very much, but I was just looking. I am very new and I do not want to kill something that is special.. :) I do not have a very good success rate with anything right now...

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

No problem! Did you see the seed germination forum yet?

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

Yes, I am reading and trying to learn. Thank you for offering.. I just do not want to kill anything....

Tuinkabouter,
Thank you!

I'm going to share the Ovidia seeds you send with out local botanical garden...:)

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

That's good! I'm sure this French gentlemen that sent me those seeds will love the idea.....

Chesapeake, VA

Tuinkabouter, what can I send to you in return?

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Surprise me! BTW, are you in the butterfly swap? I'm not really sure.....

Chesapeake, VA

Butterfly plants? Or swapping butterflies?

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Confirmed, you're not!

you've got D-mail!

Chesapeake, VA

Tuinkabouter,
Something is wrong - I don't see the d-mail. If you want seeds for butterfly plants, I understand. What butterflies do you wish to attract? Do you wish to invite larvae to your yard for lunch, or adults for a nice cool nectar drink?

Antioch, TN

Tuinkabouter, are the Ovidia andina all gone? If not, I'll take one.
What do you need in return?

Chesapeake, VA

Tuinkabouter,
Since you mentioned butterfly gardening, I tried to googled and tried to find out what you might like. This is what I found on the internet for baby butterflies and their moms:

Herbs:
Parsley (I found this out this summer. Three wormy babes - black with vertical yellow stripes - ate all my parsley in 2 days).

Butterfly Flowers: Annuals
Cosmos
Marigold
Tithonia
Helianthus
Verbena
Zinnia

Wildflowers:
New England asters Aster novae-anglicae

Perennials:
Bee-balm
Black-eyed susan
Butterfly weed
Baptisia
Hibiscus
Hollyhock
Lobelia
Yarrow

Well...I got some Italian parsley seeds for you, the kind the wormy babes like, Hollyhock Nigra - deep dark marroon with a sort of anemone form (single with a powder-puff ruffle of little petals in the center - not single as in most images by that name), black-eyed susan, hibiscus, cosmos, verbena bonairensis or something like that, zinnia (Candy-stripe), maybe some Yarrow and Monarda, and whatever else I can find when I go through the seed bin tonight.

Do butterfly babes like lettuce? Livingston Seed company had a variegated lettuce that was really pretty. I'll send some.

Although...I suspect that the variegated lettuce won't grow as fast as just green lettuce will. And, I haven't heard that the wormy babes like lettuce. Do they?

Chesapeake, VA

Here's a picture of the lettuce in question. With no wormy baby on it.
