Hi
I have 16 hens and 4 roasters at this time. Will be trying to give away 3 roasters and only have one. But my problem is that when I let them all out of the hen house and then I let them roam free they have now gone over to my neighbors house. Which is a good quarter of a mile. But then of course they are all home when I get home. We live on 25 acres so there is plenty of room to go around. Is there something I can do to keep them on the back piece of the property where the hen house is. Not a fence if possible. Do they make a electric fence or siren for them.
thank you
Zan
My chickens roam now to far..
They DO make really neat electric fencing that is easily moveable and solar too. I saw it in a farm magazine, but I'm sure if you googled electric poultry fencing, it would come up.
HI
Thank you very much I will look for it.

Meanwhile, keep them locked up to retrain them. Get them into a new routine, so to speak. Give them lots of treeats, and keep their feeders in the pens, even once you let them out. For guineas you generally lock down for six weeks, but it may not tak ethat much for you to retrain the birds. It dpeends how well imprinted they are to the coop, and how long they have been wandering off.
Keep in mind, there must be some reall treat, like a specific bug, that is at the nieghbors... they go back for the reward, so to speak...
Good luck!
Hi
Yes they feed stray cats outside so there is cat food. I have had them in their pen for about 5 days now and let them out when I'm home. That way I can keep a eye on them. I just cannot believe they have gone that far.
Thank you for your help. I love my roosters and the girls!
Oh my, if they are going over for cat food, you have a BIG problem on your hands, it is very habit forming, and, as I understand, not safe for your chickens if eaten too much for too long. we have to feed our outside cats in the mud room.
you might talk to the nieghbor, offer some solutions such as feeders somewhere the chickens can't get [good luck with that LOL]
