Who wants to change the College Station RU date? Please post

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

here! Some people have expressed a desire to change the date of the spring College Station roundup to a later date. I have not yet made the reservation, so we can do this if it is wanted. But since we have already advertised it as being March 15th, I would really like everyone's input on this. The dates up for grabs are:

March 30th
April 12 or 13th
April 26th or 27th

So....what are your thoughts?

Thanks! Kim

Having it on a Sunday doesn't bother me, but I'm betting that it will with others.

Of course I vote to change it! I'm selfish that way! LOL!

March 29 or April 12 would be great for me. Ixnay on April 26 - Texas Master Gardener Conference. Church on Sunday (you're right, AuntAnne)....(For those of you wondering, Easter is March 23)

Also, it would be further along in the gardening season so that more plants will have made themselves available for potting up - and the weather would be nicer too. Not that it can't be nice March 15 - if it wants to be.

Lest you all think I did this, I didn't - but thanks to whoever did!

I'd love it if it was in April - and a Sunday is fine with me - maybe we meet after 12:00 pm? However, the Mar. 29 or April 12 would be ok, for me so far. I think we'd have more plants ready by then - I know I will.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

The reason I didn't put the 29th is because that is the date of the big spring A&M plant sale. However, we could always have the roundup later that day.

When was the Waxahatchie RU, Frostweed? Was April 12 a problem? In the fall, we were too close to the north Texas RU and that really cut our attendance. Don't want to repeat that, even though the small group was fun and we had time to get to know each other well - plants were still in abundance!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

I believe the Waxahachie ru is April 19.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

So that would make two weekend RU's in a row - as Frostweed said would be difficult. We want Frostweed and all our northern friends to be able to come!

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

Well like we said before the A & M Spring plant sale is usually over very early. By the time it was supposed to be starting the plants were well picked over and the check out line was very long. So the RU could start around 10 or 11 and it shouldn't be a prob if we chose that day.

Just looked it up. Mercer March Mart (big deal in Houston) is March 28, 29. I don't go anymore, but some others might. I don't know.

I think the fall problem was two-fold - the Dallas RU already having taken place, and recently, and the late date for the CS RU. Already into Thanksgiving mode...and too late to really get out there and plant. IMHO

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

So true Anne....and if there are any brave souls out there wanting to check it out they could always meet there early! I know mom and I will be there bright and early.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

Matters not to me at this moment...date or time...I'm determined not to miss this year's RU...Sunday would be OK...because I work on Sat nites but I will plan accordingly....whichever day it is...the fact that I'm only a little over an hour's drive away...makes it easier to say that.
People who have to drive from a distance farther away and need to get back for work on Monday...probably would prefer a Sat....understandably.

The Grand Saline Bloomin' Festival is March 29th, and Lynea (cocoa_lulu) has invited us all. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/804664/

I'd vote to have the College Station RU on April 12th or April 26th. I will have little to share until spring arrives in my area. Our last freeze is usually the last week of March or first week of April.

College Station, TX(Zone 8b)

There's going to be something going on every weekend starting in March on. So my vote is that we pick a weekend and just go with it.

Pat, that is right, i had forgotten about the Grand Saline flower festival and i have promised to be there, so I can't miss that one.
So please set whatever date is most convenient for everyone else, and i will just do the best i can.
Josephine.

Well...no one has mentioned any conflicts with April 12th. So....how about we decide whether to keep it on March 15 or move it to April 12th? I know people aren't going to want two roundups in a row (with Waxahachie on the 19th), but unfortunately there are only so many weekends to choose from.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Well, of course I vote for April 12. Because I can't go March 15. But think about this too - we'll have a much better selection to trade in April. Many things are just coming up by March 15, and many haven't even started. And more time to prepare. And the weather should be better. :-D

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow, Waxahachie and Grand Saline are already a done deal? I'm going to vote for April 12 since so many Central Texans will have just seen the last freeze.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

Any of those dates are fine with me personally, but waiting til April does make more sense for people digging up stuff in their yards

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I agree, silverflutter.

Missouri City, TX

Cannot make any Sunday - cooking breakfast at our restaurant - sorry.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Bubba....that is ok as I think we have now decided against any Sunday dates. April 12th and March 15th are both Saturdays.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I will have to vote for April 12th for CS RU.
March (the whole month) is the Tropical Butterfly Exhibit at FW Botanical Gardens and I have promised to help on weekends there. Also, I had planned on being out of state on the 12th but I can shift that back a week. I plan on making Waxahachie on the 19th, but Grand Saline is a conflict for me..
Can't make the 12th, plans are not changable as I thought at first. Hope you all enjoy.

My vote is for April 12th.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I vote for April 12. Much easier to have plants.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Sounds like a resounding yes for the 12th then. I will start a new thread later today and try to direct everyone that way.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

Hooray!! I hope it works out for everybody else... I'll wait and see before I start making my trade list...
Thanks, everybody!
