Angel's Exotic and Superspot

Geneva, FL(Zone 9b)

It's been a while since I posted--not much time these days to spend on the 'puter', however, I do come in from time to time to enjoy everybody's photos. Anyway, thought I'd share a few special plants of mine.

First two pictures---Angel's Exotic:

I am really jazzed with these two German brugs. Angel's Exotic has been a great bloomer since it got its first "Y". In these first two pics, she is a little paler than she was with her first bloom flush which was a couple months ago and she was outside. At that time she was a deep reddish-pink .She is still in a 10 gallon pot and has been kept smaller through this and from cutting branches to root. This--TO ME--is the prettiest double flower as it is so extremely ruffled and curled.

Last three pictures: Super Spot--we've all seen the picture with the tomato held next to the bloom, showing it is red. Well, it is, in fact, getting pretty darn red. This plant is also in a 10 gallon, but also much smaller than Angel's Exotic. This is her first good bloom. It opened a remarkably deep pink, then on day two I started seeing her darken to this lovely shade of red. This is day three and the flower is really starting to heat up. Many of my other brug's flowers don't last as long, but both Angel's Exotic and Super Spot have nice, long lives--often several days. Unlike Angel's Exotic, the color hasn't been lessened by being in the greenhouse. If it being outside means it will bloom an even deeper shade, then I certainly have something to look forward to in the Spring. BTW--The I really like the leaves of this variety--very thick, very large, and deep green.

They are extraordinarily beautiful♥

MickyAZ,

I keep all my German brugs in partial shade (at least 50%) during the summer. They tend to only produce a few blooms in the hottest months; tending to bloom heaviest in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. The SuperSpot was still a good bit smaller when my friend from up North sent her to me, so she hasn't bloomed until now. She seemed to not be as prone to wilting though in the severe heat like a few of the others, though.

Brad.
Will you be selling them? I looked on your web site and didn't see any bugs listed.

Brad,
Those are really gorgeous photos. You sure have some beauties there.
I was wondering if the SS was as red as the one photo I've seen of it! Wow!
My husband got a Rosalla from you ( I think), for me, for a xmas present :) It is really a nice healthy plant, doing well....and still has that big fat seedpod on it... Can't wait to see what it ends up as!

Lala Jane, I'm with you... Florida sounds great about now....pick me up on the way LOL!

ZOMBIE - Must have red, Must have red.

Stunning.

Quite a while ago, someone posted a photo or a link to a tomato red cross from Germany. Supposedly, it was a cross with B sanguinea, one that is thought to be impossible. Is that true or just an urban legend?

Brad, I need to talk to you soon. I have a great brug deal coming up. I will try to call you soon. I hope you remember who I am.

Lenette,

That was the first time I rooted a brug cutting that bloomed at 10" tall anf then threw a seedpod. I am pleasantly surprised the seedpod survived shipping!!

My Joli and Salmon Perfektion are planted in the gound side by side and each has one seedpod on them. I am curious to see if they surviv the intermittant cold weather (the pods that is). We had one light freeze and the brugs only lost their leaves and are not putting out more. The seedpods survived and have gotten bigger. Interesting, to say the least. If they make it I will plants and see what gives. I am so stretched with dealing with plumerias and heliconias that I really haven't had time to spend hybridizing brugs. Therefore a natural cross is as welcome as any.

Hi Brenda,

of course I remember you! I might disappear often as full-time teaching and plant business together are all-consuming, but, I don't easily forget people with whom I have spoken.

I am starting to think I need to get out more, but, until either the plant business or teaching wins out over the other, that probably won't happen. LOL Living in the country also tends to put one in a cocoon. It seems the only people I see or speak with these days are students and co-workers while at work, and, at home, those that come by or are able to catch me on the phone.

Anyway, drop me an email and/or we can talk soon. I hope your brug from me is still doing well for you.

Happy New Year,

Brad

No problems, Joli' has bloomed for us, it was lovely.

I will be intouch, I think you will like what I have to tell you.

Brad,
yes the Rosalla is a strange plant. There is still no Y in site but one huge pod hanging off the side of a straight plant LOL! Crazy thing~it does look like the top leaves are starting to cluster so prob a Y soon....Just wanted to let you know that if I get anything interesting -from the seeds that you are very welcome to first cutting as you will be named the hybridizer!

Brenda,

Look forward to hearing from you.

Lenette,

Can you post a pic of that pod? I am really curious to see it now. I do hope it gets something cool. As is located right next to my Angel's Exotic and possibly exposed to pollen from other German brugs nearby, no telling what the seedlings might be. As there was only the one flower on the cutting as it rooted, I imagine the pollen parent was the Angel's Exotic which was so close to it and had several blooms. Good Luck!

Here is one of the whole plant. It is still small yet but last night when I checked it, it does have a definite Y at the very top (still far above that first flower/pod lol). It is starting a few new flower buds in the Y now too.

That pod looks great thus far and the plant looks happy, I hope she blooms wonderfully for you soon.
