So, I've been planning my last batch of chickies for the spring, and I pretty well figured I was ordering from Ideal, but they don't carry one of the color combos I really wanted, Blue laced red wyandottes! Ahhhhh, it's a tragedy, lol! Now what? Murray carries them, but they don't have all those interesting breeds and colors that Ideal has. Ideal carries BLR Wyandotte banties, but not the full sized version. Does anyone know if MyPetChicken carried these guys last year? Also, I guess just ordering a splash silkie from a hatchery is also unheard of. I guess you just have to get lucky and get one in your blue batch? I can order splash chickens of other varieties from certain hatcheries, but no silkies. Anyone have any good info on either of these types as far as hatcheries are concerned? I'd drive somewhere in Missouri in order to get some, but I don't want to pay outrageous prices for chickies that I'm not showing, at least not yet, lol!
What to do?
So...Julie...what would it take for me to convince you to send me a couple fertilized eggs from that guy? (assuming that is a roo). hahaha...I WANT SOME!
I know aren't they beautiful! I had a BLRW in my first batch that the kitty got and she was lovely. See, I don't have an incubator and have never incubated my own, I don't have the slightest idea of how to do that without an incubator. I'd probably be better off with chicks.

Yahoo groups has a BLRW FORUM you could maybe find a breeder in your area that would sell you chicks.

Try there and see if you find someone near you. Typically breeder birds are a little better quality than hatchery birds anyway.

At the moment I have my entire flock mixed together, so he is in with Orpingtons, Standard Cochins, Gold Laced Wyandotte,Brahmas and a couple other breeds like EE's and Chanteclers along with My big Blue Orpington Roo and a Giant Black cochin roo. I have about 30ish hens so the guys aren't squabbling yet...lol. My BLRW is dominant in the flock.
I am toying with splitting my run in the spring once the snow is gone. I have two coops that open to one run, but I have the extra fencing on hand if I choose to do it . I just don't know that I want to breed specifically for one color or breed.
I have some eggs in the bator now from my flock to see what I get. I bought my BLRW eggs from QUEENB on this forum, and on BYC she is known as BLISSCHICK.

Thanks Julie! I will see if I can get a hold of her. He is just beautiful!
Thanks jab, I appreciate the help. Oh, and your flock sounds like mine. I have around 20 chickens right now and plan to have around 30 by the time I'm done. I basically have one of everything or will from all the rare and unusual categories. The only chickens I have that are the same breed are still different colors ( my silkies and polish), everyone else is one of a kind. I get complements on my unusual flock all the time! My problem is that I couldn't just pick one, lol.
He sure is good looking!
Very handsome!
