THIS IS AN EMERCENCY!

I receive a passi in the mail today. It was about 3 1/2 feet long with nice thick vine. The problem is it snapped and broke while I was planting it. How do I root it, and will the root part get another vine. Thanks in advance for helping me.

Oh no! I hate it when that happens. Until you get an answer put the top half in some water so it doesn't die.

I am not sure about exactly what to do other than that. I hope you get an answer soon!

Kathy, are there any nodes above the root part? What kind of Passi is it?

WAiting for that answer but the best thing is to cut right below a set of nodes, place on heat mat in mostly perlite. Cover with plastic and leave it be. Daily remove lastic to let it breathe but don;t pull it up to look for roots. Hopefully you will see the leaves staying strong that are on it.

it is Passiflora phoenicea "Ruby Glow". The vine that snapped off is at least 36 inches long.

To the rescue!!!!

Plant the rooted part of your cutting in ordinary potting soil, and care for it as you would any other plant. Keep it moist, not wet and give it a bright light position in your home. Not too much sun for now.

The broken part:

Take cuttings with at least three nodes. Cut one inch below the first node, and one inch above the third node. Put a little rooting hormone on the end of each and stick all of them in a 6" pot. Your soil mix should be 75% perlite mixed with 25% good potting soil. Water ONCE, then wait until the mix feels dry on top. Then, water again.

Don't worry! Ruby glow roots pretty easily!

Well, I have a passiflor incense I believe, and any bit of the vine I have broken off has very easily grown just by sticking it in the dirt.

Need advice please - want to grow a hardy passi for zone 8a that, hopefully, isn't invasive. Is this combination possible?

I'd really appreciate your advice! How do you like Gulfport? I was googling info for there.

Still on eBay, plus here at Dave's Marketplace.
The only Passiflora I know of that isn't invasive is a Passiflora grown in a pot. They all need room to romp,
For your zone, P. caerulea and Maypops would do, but unless they're in pots, they'll take over your world.
Its in their nature to do so. :-)

Gordo would you happen to have a picture of the plant 'P. foetida', I must have messed up my labels and I have 2 that are labeled P. foetida.

The first one looks a whole lot like a hibiscus leaf but is fuzzy. The other one is shaped like a lot of my other Passifloras. I will try to remember to get a pic tonight to post.

There are about twenty varieties of P. foetida. Which is yours?

The leaf structure is something like P.caerulea, or P. "Constance Elliot". When did you buy it?
Maybe we can identify it that way.
