Transplanting rose bushes in Houston.

in Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We are moving soon , and I have two roses bushes I really want to take with us if we can. Is this a good time to move them or should I leave them. I don't want to kill them. Is there any suggestions on a great shade tree that grows about 20 feet tall.
Thanks,
Patti

Patti, don't know roses but a great shade tree is 'Drake Elm'. Grows fast. I put in a 6' one about 6 or 7 years ago and it is 25' high and wide. Gene

Patti the roses will be fine to move now, but for a tree that big you might need major help and that will be expensive, it might be easier to buy a new tree.

Thanks Gene . I will check into a Drake Elm.
Thank you Josephine. I will be buying a tree. I wouldn't dare move a large tree.

Oh, I didn't realize you needed a suggestion for a tree, not to move a tree.
If you want a small native tree with great fall color and fast growing you could try a
Smooth Sumac, Rhus glabra, here is a link;

Patti!!!! Are you moving within the same area?
You can transplant roses now and they should be just fine. As for 20ft tree, some things to consider when making your selection:
flowering vs. fruit (ie dwarf citrus) vs. reg. tree
decidous vs evergreen
front or back of house
canopy style (pyramid vs. pompom vs columnar)

don't have specific trees to recommend. I have oaks and pecans and the obligatory crape myrtles.

I'm excited for you about the move, hope is goes w/o incident.

Hi Nery,
Thanks for your advice. I will definitely put it to good use.
Yes I am moving within the same area. I am excited, but at the same time dreading the move.
The house is Mediterrian style, so I want to design around it. The yard is large and a blank slate, and which also means alot of work. The backyard is full sun, so I am looking for trees for shade. I want to put in one or two fruit trees, just don't know which kind yet. The front yard is total shade with two large trees. I know I have to use every weekend to get it in shape before the heat kicks in . I did say I am excited, and did I mention crazy too. LOL
