Hibiscus order interest?

North Augusta, ON

Hey everybody. I have been drooling over all the fancy Hibiscus in the Hibiscus Forum and was wondering if maybe I am not alone. Was thinking if we got enough people interested, we could split the Phyto certificate and do kind of a co-op?

Any interest?

I'm interested. There are some introductions - Fleming Brothers hybrids that are x moscheutos http://www.flemingsflowerfields.com/flowers.htm
From what I understand they are robust in growth and better growers than 'Lord Baltimore' & 'Lady Baltimore'.

Hi Growin...those are Hardy Hibiscus, I was thinking these ones;

How about this one for 5b http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/40953/

If there's a rosa-sinensis that is 8a/b hardy, I'm for it.

ahhh...you don't like the ones that have to live inside in the winter? You'd think they'd be hardy where you are though...or close to it...

I have about 15 hardy ones, they are common in the garden centres here, they sell them as annuals :)) but I know better and scoop them all up cheaply.

Sweet! We have the problem of not enough heat so some don't break dormancy ie. H. coccinea or they take forever to bloom. The newer hybrids mentioned above supposedly bloom earlier. I had a H. rosa-sinensis come through a mild winter - toasted the next.

They may bloom earlier, but won't they still need the heat? Mine are always the last things to poke through in the spring, when I think they're dead I know enough to give em another couple weeks. We get 3 or more weeks of -25 temps. in the winter and I've never lost one.
I had a yard sale last summer and could have sold a hundred of them, everybody looked at them and took pictures. Next year I will be ready :)) I figured out how to start them from tip cuttings.

We can't do much about the heat other than find a reflective heat spot.

My friend had 'Lord Baltimore' in his garden and could have sold it many times over. I tried cuttings but without success so I divided the roots and voila.
