Nice blooms. Art Colony is a new one to me.

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi Brugie,

I am really glad I picked this one up. It is hybridized by barry and sold at the local chapter's hibiscus show & sales. Seems to bloom all of the time just as Texas Aggie does.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm sure looking forward to summer and some color. Everything is white here right now. It's pretty and looks better than the brown we were looking at, but the color of flowers sure makes me feel better. The heat probably helps too. Your hibs are all wonderful to look at as are everyone's. Thanks for sharing.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

This hibiscus forum has me determined to start growing them. We have a really good nursery called Johnson's in Ingleside with magnificent hibiscus so I am just waiting another month to start buying them....I have no idea where they buy their fantastic selections of hibiscus.

If you don't mind mail order, here are the top three fav's for lots of us on here:
www.hibiscusplace.com
www.hiddenvalleyhibiscus.com
www.hypnoticblooms.com (I don't know my TX geography very well, Robert's in Nederland, not sure if that's close to you or not)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, ecrane. I can't think where Nederland is but will find out. I don't mind mail order at all. Very excited to book mark these right now!

*******edited to say Nederland is in east Texas.......another nursery hopping spree this spring!

Gail, you go on the best nursery hopping tours. I wish I lived closer to you but on second thought that would probably be dangerous. LOL

ps, Robert has fabulous hibiscus.....
and, the babies you sent me are doing wonderfully well. :-))))

Everytime I visit Dave's Garden and see the lovelies you folks post, it inspires me. Thanks for the motivation to haul my bones outside to make more crosses despite an aching back.

Here are two that can look so similar I released one early, but this week they are so distinctive I regret letting go of the one. They are Veronika Todd and Mountain Air (different crosses).

Mountain Air qualified for Hibiscus of the Year competition, Am. Hibs. Society, and right now it lacks the white spots and freckles present in warmer weather . .

And here's the other, which I just released for sale and show, this week looking very different from Mountain Air. Named for my neighbor, friend, and doctor, Veronika Todd, who took about six years to pick one to bear her name.

peace,
Barry

Here's a wild one Matt will be selling as Fiery Furnace. I've never seen anything quite like it . . grows a little slowly but for me the flowers are worth waiting for.
enjoy,

These two flowers appeared as the first blooms on a one gallon clone of an 8" double called Joker. Summer blooms are quite different, as I'll show you. Form is not exactly . . coat and tie, but give it an A for enthusiasm?
;-)
smiles to you,
Barry

Here's another exuberant double, Cafe Ole, putting on a cool weather show, redder in hot weather and smaller. This one was almost 8" across. Rampant grower . . maybe too much so for a commercial variety . .
smiles,
Barry

I forgot for a moment . . here's Joker in summertime:

Those are gorgeous as usual Barry! I think I ordered Veronika Todd from Matt and Fiery Furnace is definitely going on my wishlist! (I need to put a new greenhouse on my wishlist too if I don't stop buying new ones!)

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Liz, I definitely think you need a new greenhouse ;-) I ordered Veronica Todd too and will be looking forward to Fiery Furnace. Mountain Air is quite stunning. Love that Joker pic too, particularly the unusual looking bloom with the groovy rainbow suspenders! Oh my gosh, I used to wear suspenders just like that back (a million years ago) in college, along with levis and bright red sneakers. Haha, remember Mork from Ork? Okay, now I'm really dating myself...

Robert, gorgeous blooms - I like Art Colony and Kiss of Death the best :-)

Wow, that Fiery Furnace is something else. Cafe Ole is a looker too. I love rampant growers. LOL! Being able to handle them is a benefit of living in the country. Great pictures, Barry.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I had a couple blooming yesterday & today. Here's 'Barry Schleuter':

Now, onto Barry's pics...

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I ordered Veronica Todd and I must have Fiery Furnace....there goes the wallet snatchers again!!!

ps, ferocious guardog is 1 year old today! She is on the bed, snoring away, lol.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Nice beauties, Ecrane. I hope the pics continue!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Love that Barry Schleuter hibiscus.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I think I already ordered Kiss of Death. So many great ones to try to keep track of in a old mind. LOL. I really love Veronika Todd and Mountain Air.
