I've been drooling over your Hibiscus pics for months and months. Been thinking, if I could get enough Canadians together for a mass order from someplace with a great selection, we could all split the Phyto cost. There is NO place up here to buy these.
What I need to know, how long can they last in the mail? They would have to travel here, then travel again to their new homes. Anything that has been sent to me from the US is at the very least a week, usually a week and a half. Then another maybe 5 days across Canada. Would they survive? or am I just dreaming again...
Maximum travelling time
So long as there weren't weather problems, like freezing, I'd think that they'd survive. Just remind the nursery to water well before sending. Seven to ten days wouldn't kill them so long as they had a big drink before their journey. They'd be very thirsty when they arrived and would likely have to be soaked.

You might consider emailing whichever seller you were considering purchasing the plants from and ask their opinion. They have tons of experience with shipping hibiscus, and should be able to tell you what the chances are of the plants arriving at their final destinations in good shape. If they're willing to ship to Canada they must have some confidence in the plants making it there alive, so then the only question is if you unpack them, water them, and repack them will they still be OK after 5 more days in boxes.
Thanks, any favorite sellers to recommend?
These are most people's favorite three, no idea if they'll ship to Canada or not but I'm sure they'll tell you on their websites.

Thanks ecrane3!
You might consider asking this question on the International Hibiscus Society website. Judging from the name they must have members all over the globe.

I wish I could help with question but it does depend on customs and quarintines. I have been told it could be as long as 2 weeks on a 5 day priority EMS package. But you never know. If everything is smooth there could be no delays just the expense per box, inspection fees and such. I've only been warned about how high it is costwise to ship them but never experienced it. I would think bareroot cuttings would have to be sent but I am not experienced in this. I will look into your regulations and see if I can and what it would take to ship to you.
Take Care,
Robert
Thanks Robert...I figured it was an iffy venture to begin with. Seems I am the only one on the Canadian forum drooling over tropical Hibiscus anyways :)
You could always buy a whole bunch just for yourself...if you buy enough of them, that $60 phyto fee will seem like a drop in the bucket! LOL
You know, I was thinking just that :))
If I work a little overtime every week, and tuck it away in a drawer...by spring...hmmmm
Uh oh, I see another hibiscus addict in progress!!
