Then she looks at me and says... I think you need to go to the pain clinic... I say ok what is that... It is a place that will find a me med. that will control my pain better... I said like what types of meds..... Now if you are taking any of these I don't have a problem but I come from a family of drunks and drugies... No thank you for me.... Well she starts with welll oxicotin, then said well morphine, then the kicker methadone.... LIKE IS SHE OFF HER ROCKER.... NO THANK YOU.... I said listen I will go to the one doc you want me to see about the nerves in my hand but the other I think I will pass... Just let me drop my pants and shoot me up with steriods and a non steriod anit inflamatory...
Now not only does my body hurt but so so the two cheeks of my butt...LOLOLOL...

O/T Joke of my day
Susan, alcoholism and drug addiction runs in families but........if you are this age and not addicted yet, you are not an alcoholic. I am not an alcoholic though the genes are certainly there and I am not afraid to take addictive meds for pain.
What difference does it make if you become addicted to say hydrocodeine??????? It beat being in pain all the time. I know lots of older people who have to take it for pain. I haven't gotten there yet, but i don't like pain at all!
When I had to take steroids for 2 months not long ago, i gained 15 lbs in two months. i am a lot more afraid of steroids than a strong pain killer.
Please take care of yourself...............

Susan, you could always give the pain management clinic a try. I have heard wonderful things about them the past few years. You should make an appointment to at least talk to them and check them out. Ask about what medication they recommend you to be on for your level of pain. Ask them to begin you on the lowest dosage possible and see how that works. They can increase the dosage in small increments to see what works best for you. Most Doctor's will understand if you tell them you don't want to be on heavy duty addictive narcotics ... there are just so many different drugs that are used nowadays and yes some are highly addictive in large doses but there are many that with the low dosage I don't think you would have a problem.
I too know that alcoholism and drug addiction run in families ... I have both in my family! My husband and I don't drink and we are blessed with good health but you better believe, if the time comes when we are in pain and it's hard to function on a daily basis, if the pain can be managed, we will seek that help.
I don't mean to sound like a know it all here ... I don't have any medical background and know nothing about pain killers but just from what I've read and heard I really wouldn't rule out the pain management clinic without giving it a try.
Keeping you in my prayers!
Lin
I know i will not take this stuff as I need to function in this world.... i would have to stop my job that I trurly love except like yesterday when the dog won the fight and I am now brusied in part that should not need tobe.and ok some days the boss is not so good but most day she is a joy and so is my job... You also have to understand I have a high tolerance of pain but I also have a high tolerence of pain meds... I take can take3 loratab and it may take the edge off but this is a flair an needed to stop with shots... right now I am on double anitinflamtories/ anitspamtic that the normal person can take and they would be laid out flat. like high is like having candy...they don;t do allot.. So i am in a very bad cry baby mood and it is just not jut this but also my sons friend... I have to write her a letter and I don't even know where to start... i cry when I talk about it for that could have been my son Matt who did two tours, then we have a very nice young man named Jeramey.. We don't know his name as Jeremeybut he is like our son and we call him Bob as we had to many Jeremry in the house ...lOL I pray for him also... Also Jo' son.... If I asked Bob if he would not mind letters would some of you write him... he is 20 and is a joy to life... you dont' have to send him anything except may be some picture as he missis his home but would love to see our all of the diffrent homes of others.
I do take pills to sleep or I would not sleep at all. so this lady took her pills and we be on tomorrow...
I love you all so much ... Thankyou so much for my ranting..
Hugs,and Love,
Susan
I don't have a high threshold of pain and I don't like hurting. I even went to a pain management center years ago when I had such a bad tooth infection that the dentist couldn't get the deadening shot to ease the pain. That man I saw was my hero at the pain clinic.
Susan,
Sure hope you're having a better day today. I think checking with the pain management clinic could be beneficial if for no other reason than to know what all the options are for now and also if the pain does increase.
You must be in a lot of pain if you can take 3 Loritabs and it doesn't do the trick of stopping the pain. I am so sorry for you.
Oh Susan, I'm so sorry you are in such pain :(
I'm trying to think of the new prescription they just came out with for fibromyalgia.
Truly I would recommend seeing a DIFFERENT nurse/doctor.
Have you asked about:
Ulracet
Ultracet has just recently been approved for use in the United States. It works to reduce symptoms of pain and fatigue and helps to increase your ability to function. Ultracet is actually a combination of two medications: the opioid, tramadol, and the over-the-counter analgesic, acetaminophen. Ultracet works to decrease pain and improve function by acting on specific pain pathways in the brain. It also decreases the size of pain signals being delivered to the brain, reducing the amount of pain that you experience.
In recent studies, Ultracet has proven to be highly effective for fibromyalgia sufferers. In one three month trial, fibromyalgia sufferers were given up to eight Ultracet capsules a day. After three months, the fibromyalgia patients experienced a 22% increase in function and mobility, and a significant decrease in symptoms of pain and muscle stiffness. The most commonly reported side effects included nausea and constipation.
or:
Pramipexole
Pramipexole has recently been shown to reduce pain considerably in fibromyalgia patients. Sold under the brand name Mirapex, pramipexole is usually used to treat Parkinson’s patients. It is now available for use by a minority of fibromyalgia patients.
Pramipexole is a dopamine receptor agonist. This means that the drug works to stimulate the production of dopamine, a chemical transmitter in your brain. Dopamine works to reduce your body’s response to pain. In recent studies, 8 out 10 fibromyalgia patients reported a 30% improvement in pain. 4 in 10 fibromyalgia sufferers reported a 50% reduction in pain. Nausea and constipation are the most common side effects of pramipexole.
or:
Pregabalin
Pregabalin is sold under the brand name Lyrica. It is now available in the European Union and for certain conditions in the United States and Canada. Lyrica is a nerve pain medication commonly used in diabetics. It has recently shown to be useful in reducing pain caused by fibromyalgia.
Pregabalin works by calming over-excited nerve cells. Nerve cells are responsible for receiving pain messages from the outside world. People suffering from fibromyalgia often have overactive nerve cells. In a recent study involving fibromyalgia patients, pregabalin was shown to vastly reduce symptoms of fibromyalgia pain. It also worked to improve sleep and reduce fatigue symptoms. In fact, almost 50% of users claim a 30% reduction in overall symptoms. Side effects include dizziness and sleepiness.
There are alot of new things out there and maybe sitting with a really good doctor and consulting with him about your symptoms etc. and try these before just pain meds as they should help all the symptoms and not just "zone out the pain".
Praying for relief for you and your dear friend tonight Susan :)
Kim
Kim, I am impressed with your research of new drugs. You obviously know how to use the internet better than I do. I can't find half my meds on the internet to see what they do.
I am at the mercy of my doctors.
I do think there are specialists for pain (as my son has had two major back surgeries) and they really know what they are doing. At least they did wonders for my son.
